Company to Expand Capacity, Deploy Green Steel Technologies as Part of Long-Term Growth Strategy
Ranchi (Economy India): Tata Steel has announced plans to invest ₹10,000 crore in its Jharkhand operations by 2028, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable manufacturing and capacity expansion. The investment is expected to generate around 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, while supporting the company’s ambition to increase its domestic steelmaking capacity.
The announcement reflects Tata Steel’s continued focus on modernizing its production facilities and adopting low-carbon technologies to meet India’s growing steel demand.

₹10,000 Crore Investment Plan
According to company officials, the planned investment will include:
- ₹10,000 crore total investment in Jharkhand projects by 2028.
- Around ₹7,000 crore earmarked for HIsarna and Easy Melting Technology (EMT) projects.
- Creation of nearly 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.
- Expansion of advanced and environmentally sustainable steelmaking facilities.
The projects are expected to strengthen Jharkhand’s position as one of India’s leading steel manufacturing hubs.
Capacity Expansion Target
Tata Steel aims to increase its steelmaking capacity in India to 40 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) from the current 27.35 MTPA.
The expansion will be achieved through:
- Brownfield capacity additions.
- Adoption of next-generation steelmaking technologies.
- Transition toward lower-emission production processes.

Focus on Green Steel Technologies
A significant portion of the investment will support the deployment of HIsarna and Easy Melting Technology, which are designed to reduce carbon emissions in steel production.
