Five Killed, 21 Injured as Truck Hits Pickup Van on Samruddhi Highway in Amravati

AMRAVATI, (Economy India): Five people were killed and 21 others injured after a truck rammed into a Bolero pickup van on the Samruddhi Expressway near Dhamangaon in Maharashtra’s Amravati district, police said on Friday.

The accident took place at around 12:45 am on Channel 97 of the expressway near Dhamangaon railway station, according to a senior police official.

Truck Hit Pickup Van From Behind

According to police, the truck struck the pickup van from behind, resulting in multiple casualties.

Five people travelling in the pickup van died in the accident, while 21 others sustained injuries.

The injured were initially taken to Dhamangaon Rural Hospital for medical treatment. They were subsequently referred to Wardha Medical College for further care, another police official said.

Investigation Underway

Police have begun a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Officials are examining how the collision occurred and the circumstances leading up to the truck hitting the pickup van on the expressway.

Further details regarding the identities of the deceased and injured persons, as well as the condition of those undergoing treatment, are awaited.

Accident Highlights Road Safety Concerns

The crash adds to concerns over road safety on high-speed highways, where rear-end collisions involving heavy commercial vehicles can have serious consequences.

Authorities are expected to establish the precise cause of the accident as the investigation progresses.
