MUMBAI, (Economy India): Indian benchmark stock indices opened lower on Thursday as rising crude oil prices and growing tensions in West Asia dampened investor sentiment.

The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 230.95 points to 76,521.02 during early trading, while the NSE Nifty declined 57.15 points to 23,937. Market participants remained cautious amid concerns that higher crude oil prices could increase inflationary pressures and impact economic growth.

Among the major losers on the Sensex were Infosys, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, NTPC, and Reliance Industries. Selling pressure in these heavyweight stocks contributed to the broader market weakness.

Analysts said investors are closely monitoring developments in West Asia, as any further escalation could lead to increased volatility in global energy markets. Rising crude oil prices are particularly significant for India, which imports a large portion of its oil requirements.

Despite the weak start, market experts believe domestic economic fundamentals remain strong, though global uncertainties may continue to influence short-term market movements.
