Pune: An international alliance, ‘Mission Possible Partnership’ (MPP) in a landmark development released a report, “Making Net-Zero Aviation possible: An industry-backed, 1.5°C aligned Transition Strategy” on Thursday, July 14, 2022. The report outlines the transition strategy for the aviation sector to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Praj, with its groundbreaking Sustainable Aviation Fuel technology, is a significant contributor to the aforesaid report.

The Mission Possible Partnership (MPP) is an alliance of climate leaders led by the Energy Transitions Commission (ETC), Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), the We Mean Business coalition (WMBC), and the World Economic Forum (WEF). Praj has been working closely with MPP in helping formulate an energy transition strategy aimed at cleaner skies.

Praj has joined the elite league of more than 60 industry leaders and major aviation companies around the globe that includes among others Microsoft, Air France, Boeing, etc. By endorsing MPP’s report, they have reiterated the shared vision of low-carbon air transportation. A team of technologists and engineers from Praj have been actively contributing to the formulation of this landmark report.

It may be recalled that during the COP26 Glasgow climate change summit held last year, the Race to Zero Campaign was launched aimed at achieving carbon neutrality. Behind Industry, the transportation sector is the second largest consumer of energy and also an emitter of greenhouse gas (GHG). Calls for decarbonization of the transportation sector, especially aviation has been on a rise. On this backdrop, MPP’s report is seen as a significant step toward ‘Making Net-Zero Aviation possible.’

WEF is a driving force of MPP and speaking on this occasion Lauren Uppink, Head of Aviation, Travel and Tourism at the World Economic Forum said, “This is a historic moment for the aviation industry as we set ourselves on the path of Net Zero Aviation. MPP’s position on cleaner skies stands reinforced by the unequivocal support of more than 60 industry leaders around the world. We are delighted to have Praj Industries from India as one of the prime contributors and signatories to this report. We understand Praj has a unique SAF technology solution, which we believe will play an important role in our mission. We look forward to strengthening our association with Praj.”

Commenting on this development, Dr. Pramod Chaudhari, Founder Chairman at Praj Industries said, “As an energy transition company, accelerating climate actions, Praj is honoured to be associated with the WEF. I proudly recall closely working with WEF’s Clean Skies for Tomorrow (CST) team while releasing the India Insight report captioned ‘Deploying Sustainable Aviation Fuels at Scale in India.’ I am happy that this time too we could contribute to MPP’s report on ‘Making Net Zero Aviation.’ I believe that this report will help garner greater support for cleaner skies from around the world. With its cutting-edge SAF technology, Praj is helping reconfigure energy-mix for the aviation sector.’

Global aviation is currently responsible for about 3% of total global GHG emissions. If the emission remains unchecked, it could be responsible for 22% of GHG emissions by 2050. The report strongly advocates immediate action within this decade is required to set global aviation on a path to climate-neutrality, following three major milestones: carbon-neutral growth until

2030, halving emissions until 2040, and net-zero emissions by 2050. The prime goal of the net- zero roadmap would get the industry back on track to deliver on a 1.5°C target.
