NEW DELHI, (Economy india):Ola Electric has expanded beyond electric mobility with the launch of its new ‘Ola Shakti’ energy storage portfolio, designed to store electricity when it is available and supply it when required — from powering homes during outages to supporting commercial, industrial and grid-scale energy needs.

The company unveiled the portfolio on India’s 80th Independence Day, describing it as a major step in its strategy to expand the use of its battery and cell technology beyond electric vehicles.

Built around indigenous LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery technology, Ola Shakti will cover three major segments — residential, commercial and industrial or utility-scale energy storage.

Ola Electric Chairman and Managing Director Bhavish Aggarwal said the company is extending its battery and cell technology beyond electric mobility to help India store and use clean energy more efficiently.

Shakti Gen2 for homes

At the residential level, Shakti Gen2 combines battery backup, energy management and solar storage in a single system.

Ola Electric will offer two variants. The 4.6 kWh model is priced at Rs 99,999, while the 9.2 kWh model costs Rs 1,74,999 as introductory prices.

Customers can reserve either model for Rs 999, with deliveries expected to begin in November 2026.

The system is designed to help households store electricity and use it when needed, including during power outages. It can also work with solar energy systems, allowing households to store excess electricity generated during the day for later use.

Energy storage for businesses

For commercial applications, Ola Electric has introduced Shakti AC Rack and Shakti DC Rack.

The AC Rack combines the battery and inverter into a single system, while the DC Rack is designed to connect directly with compatible DC infrastructure.

Both systems are modular, allowing businesses to expand their storage capacity according to their requirements. Ola Electric said commercial availability is scheduled to begin in March 2027.

The company expects these systems to serve businesses and infrastructure operators looking for reliable backup power and better integration of renewable energy.

Mahashakti targets large-scale storage

At the top end of the portfolio is Mahashakti, which takes Ola’s energy-storage technology into industrial and utility-scale applications.

The Mahashakti Rack is designed for large commercial and industrial electricity loads, while the 6.26 MWh Mahashakti container is intended for utility-scale energy storage projects.

According to Ola Electric, the architecture can be expanded from a single container to GWh-scale energy storage plants, making it suitable for large renewable-energy projects and grid applications.

Large-scale battery storage can play an important role as India increases its dependence on renewable energy. Solar and wind power generation can fluctuate depending on weather and time of day, making energy storage increasingly important for balancing electricity supply and demand.

Ola’s battery technology expansion

The launch represents a significant expansion of Ola Electric’s battery strategy. The company has been investing in vertically integrated battery and cell capabilities and aims to use its Gigafactory and indigenous LFP cells across multiple energy applications.

Ola Electric said its integrated approach could help it offer energy-storage products without requiring significant additional capital investment.

The company has not yet disclosed complete technical specifications, detailed performance figures, warranty terms or final pricing for its commercial and utility-scale products. Further information, including partnership announcements, will be released at a later stage.

With Ola Shakti, the company is positioning itself not only as an electric vehicle manufacturer but also as an energy-storage technology provider, covering applications ranging from individual homes to large-scale power infrastructure.
