THANE, (Economy india): Police have recovered mephedrone worth over Rs 6 lakh, seized more than Rs 20 lakh in cash and arrested four persons in connection with the case in Maharashtra’s Thane district, an official said on Thursday.
Acting on information about suspicious activities, police recently conducted searches in the Bhagat Singh Nagar area of Ulhasnagar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Gore said.
During the searches, police recovered 33.41 grams of mephedrone, a synthetic drug, valued at nearly Rs 6.68 lakh. Officers also seized Rs 20.76 lakh in cash and gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 64,700.
The recovery of a large amount of cash along with the narcotic substance has prompted police to investigate the financial transactions and possible drug-related activities of the accused. Investigators are also trying to establish where the mephedrone was sourced from and whether the arrested persons were part of a larger network.
Four people have been arrested in connection with the case, and further investigation is underway. Police are examining the seized material and other evidence to identify any additional persons who may be linked to the alleged drug operation.
The action comes amid continued efforts by law enforcement agencies in Maharashtra to curb the distribution and trafficking of synthetic drugs in urban areas.
