Partnership to establish Jindal Steel Centre of Excellence at IIT Hyderabad for high-performance, value-added and cost-efficient steel products

New Delhi (Economy India): Jindal Steel and the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) have joined hands to promote the development and use of advanced steel solutions across infrastructure, engineering, construction and strategic industrial sectors.

The steel company said in a statement on Friday that the partnership will focus on developing high-performance, value-added and cost-efficient steel products and solutions to meet the evolving requirements of various industries.

Jindal Steel Centre of Excellence to be Set Up

As part of the collaboration, a Jindal Steel Centre of Excellence will be established at IIT Hyderabad.

The centre is expected to serve as a platform for research, innovation and technology development in advanced steel applications. It will bring together the expertise of Jindal Steel and IIT Hyderabad to work on solutions aimed at improving the performance and cost efficiency of steel products.

Focus on Advanced Steel Applications

The collaboration will target a wide range of applications in infrastructure, engineering and construction, along with strategic industrial sectors.

Advanced steel products can play an important role in improving the efficiency and durability of infrastructure and industrial projects. The partnership aims to encourage research and development that can translate into commercially viable solutions for these sectors.

By combining industrial expertise with academic and research capabilities, the initiative could also help accelerate the development of new steel grades, products and applications.

Industry-Academia Collaboration

The partnership between Jindal Steel and IIT Hyderabad represents an effort to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in the steel and engineering ecosystem.

Academic institutions such as IITs provide research capabilities, technical expertise and access to advanced laboratories, while industry partners can provide practical requirements, manufacturing knowledge and opportunities for commercial deployment.

The proposed Centre of Excellence is expected to provide a platform where these capabilities can be brought together to address real-world industrial challenges.

Supporting India’s Industrial and Infrastructure Needs

India’s growing infrastructure and manufacturing requirements are increasing the demand for high-quality and specialised steel products.

Advanced steel solutions can support sectors ranging from large infrastructure projects and construction to engineering applications and strategic industries.

The Jindal Steel-IIT Hyderabad partnership is aimed at contributing to this requirement by focusing on products that offer a combination of high performance, value addition and cost efficiency.

Focus on Innovation and Cost Efficiency

A key objective of the initiative will be to develop steel solutions that can provide better performance while remaining economically viable.

Research and innovation in steel technology can help improve material utilisation, product quality and manufacturing efficiency. Such developments can ultimately help industries reduce costs and improve the reliability of their projects.

The Centre of Excellence at IIT Hyderabad is expected to become an important platform for pursuing these objectives through collaborative research and technology development.

A Step Toward Next-Generation Steel Solutions

The collaboration highlights the growing importance of technology and innovation in India’s steel industry.

As demand increases for specialised materials across infrastructure, construction, engineering and strategic applications, partnerships between major steel producers and leading research institutions can help create solutions suited to India’s changing industrial needs.

The Jindal Steel-IIT Hyderabad initiative is therefore expected to strengthen research capabilities while promoting the development and adoption of advanced steel solutions across multiple sectors.
