Bhopal ( Economy India ):The Madhya Pradesh government has released ₹500 crore to accelerate land acquisition and rehabilitation work for three major multipurpose dam projects in the upper reaches of the Narmada River that had remained stalled for more than three years.
The funding will support the Upper Narmada, Raghavpur, and Basania projects, which were delayed due to compensation-related issues in tribal areas.
The ₹500 crore allocation is part of the ₹1,280 crore special relief package approved by the state cabinet in December 2025. This package is in addition to the ₹1,656.02 crore already included in the original Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), bringing the total financial commitment for the special package to ₹2,936.02 crore.
According to Dr. Rajesh Rajora, Additional Chief Secretary of the Narmada Valley Development Department, the release of funds is expected to significantly speed up the land acquisition process and help resume work on the long-pending projects.
The government aims to complete rehabilitation and compensation procedures at the earliest so that construction activities can move forward without further delays. Officials believe the projects will strengthen irrigation infrastructure, improve water availability, and contribute to regional development once completed.
The renewed financial support reflects the state’s effort to remove long-standing obstacles and revive key infrastructure projects that are considered vital for agriculture and water resource management in Madhya Pradesh.
