Six Out of Every 10 New Hyundai Outlets to Be Opened in Rural Markets as Company Strengthens Presence Beyond Cities
New Delhi (Economy India): Hyundai Motor India Ltd is stepping up its focus on rural markets and expects them to contribute around 30 per cent of its total sales within the next three to four years, Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg said.
The automaker is strengthening its rural strategy through network expansion and product demand, particularly in the SUV segment. Garg said Hyundai’s rural business is already showing strong SUV penetration, reflecting changing consumer preferences beyond India’s major urban centres.

Rural Markets Emerging as Key Growth Driver
Hyundai Motor India sees significant growth potential in rural markets as rising incomes, improving road connectivity and increasing aspirations drive demand for passenger vehicles.
According to Garg, the company expects rural markets to account for around 30 per cent of Hyundai’s overall sales in the next three to four years.
The target underlines the increasing importance of India’s smaller towns and rural areas for automobile manufacturers seeking their next phase of growth.

Strong SUV Demand in Rural India
SUVs have emerged as a major component of Hyundai’s overall sales as well as its rural business.
Currently, around 68 per cent of Hyundai Motor India’s total sales come from SUVs, Garg said.
The SUV penetration is even higher in rural markets, where SUVs account for around 69 per cent of Hyundai’s sales.
The figures point to strong demand for SUVs among rural consumers and highlight the segment’s importance in Hyundai’s growth strategy.
Hyundai Expands Rural Network
Hyundai Motor India is also increasing its physical presence in rural markets.
Garg said that six out of every 10 new Hyundai outlets being opened by the company are located in rural markets.
The expansion is aimed at bringing Hyundai’s products and services closer to customers in smaller towns and rural areas while strengthening the company’s sales and after-sales network.
A wider network can also help the company improve customer accessibility, service coverage and brand visibility in markets outside major cities.
Changing Rural Consumer Preferences
India’s rural automobile market has been undergoing a gradual transformation, with consumers increasingly seeking products that offer features, technology, safety and utility comparable with vehicles available in urban markets.
The strong SUV demand in rural areas reflects this changing preference.
For Hyundai, the combination of rising rural penetration and an expanding network provides an opportunity to deepen its presence in these markets.
SUV Segment Remains Central to Hyundai’s Strategy
With SUVs accounting for 68 per cent of Hyundai Motor India’s overall sales, the segment remains central to the company’s product strategy.
The company’s rural SUV penetration of 69 per cent further demonstrates the importance of the segment in attracting customers outside India’s metropolitan centres.
As the company expands its rural footprint, its SUV portfolio is likely to remain an important driver of demand.
Focus on India’s Next Growth Market
Hyundai’s plan to derive 30 per cent of sales from rural markets over the next three to four years reflects a broader industry trend of automobile companies looking beyond traditional urban markets.
The focus on rural outlets, combined with strong SUV demand, could help Hyundai strengthen its position in India’s expanding passenger vehicle market.
With six of every 10 new outlets being established in rural markets, Hyundai is positioning its retail network to capture the growing purchasing power and changing preferences of consumers across India’s smaller towns and rural regions.
