Jamshedpur (Economy India): A tragic lightning strike claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman and left her husband injured in Jharkhand‘s East Singhbhum district on Thursday afternoon, highlighting the growing dangers posed by thunderstorms and lightning during the monsoon season.
The incident occurred in Henselbil village, located under the jurisdiction of Potka Police Station, when the couple stepped outside their residence to dry clothes. Unexpectedly, severe weather conditions developed in the area, and a lightning bolt struck near them, causing devastating consequences.
The deceased has been identified as Muskan Pan (23), while her husband Sanjay Hansda sustained injuries and is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Tragedy Strikes During Routine Household Work
According to police officials, the couple was carrying out routine household chores when the incident took place.
Residents said dark clouds had gathered over the village during the afternoon, followed by thunder and lightning activity. Before the couple could seek shelter, a powerful lightning strike hit the area.
The impact proved fatal for Muskan Pan, who collapsed immediately after being struck.
Local villagers rushed to the spot and alerted authorities while making arrangements to transport the injured man to a nearby medical facility.
Police Confirm Incident
Potka Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sunny Toppo confirmed the incident and stated that preliminary investigations indicate that lightning was the cause of death.
“Muskan Pan (23) was killed and her husband Sanjay Hansda was injured after lightning struck the area. Necessary legal formalities are being completed,” the officer said.
Police officials visited the village after receiving information about the incident and initiated the required procedures.
Husband Under Medical Care
Family members and local residents said Sanjay Hansda suffered injuries due to the lightning strike but survived the incident.
He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where doctors are monitoring his condition. Officials said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, though he remains under observation.
