AHMEDABAD (Economy India): At least five workers were rescued after a large iron slab collapsed at an under-construction building in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar on Wednesday night, while several others were feared trapped beneath the debris, officials said.
The incident occurred around 9 pm when an iron structure being erected between two buildings suddenly collapsed, trapping workers underneath.
Following the incident, teams from the fire brigade, police and local administration rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation. Labourers at the construction site told officials that several workers had been present on the metal structure when it collapsed and that some could still be trapped under the debris.
More than four fire brigade vehicles were deployed at the site after authorities received information about the collapse. Ambulances were also sent to the location to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured workers.

Five Injured Workers Rescued
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi reached the site and monitored the ongoing rescue operation.
Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya said five injured workers had been rescued from the rubble and taken to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for treatment.
“Five persons have been shifted to the hospital for treatment so far. A team of doctors is taking care of them,” Pansheriya told reporters at the hospital.
He said some of the rescued workers had suffered fractures to their backs and legs, adding that doctors would decide whether surgery was required.
Crane, Electric Cutters Used in Rescue Operation
Fire brigade personnel were using a large crane and electric cutters to remove the collapsed metal debris and search for any workers who might still be trapped underneath.
Officials said the rescue operation was continuing and that the exact number of people who may have been trapped beneath the collapsed structure was not immediately known.
Authorities were focusing on carefully removing the heavy metal debris while simultaneously checking the structure for signs of trapped workers.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at the construction site. Further details about the cause of the collapse and the total number of workers involved are expected as the rescue operation progresses.
