BILASPUR, (Economy india): Three children from the same family drowned after being swept away by a strong current while crossing the Ghongha River in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district, police said on Sunday.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday when the children were returning home from DP Vipra School in Nayapara, located around 2 km from their village, Samdeel. They were accompanied by their 14-year-old cousin, Rajendra.
According to Avnish Paswan, station house officer of Takhatpur police station, the children were crossing the Ghongha River when the strong current suddenly swept three of them away.
The victims were identified as Anmol Jaiswal, 6, his seven-year-old sister Stuti, and their six-year-old cousin Shiksha. All three were carried away by the current, while 14-year-old Rajendra managed to reach the riverbank safely.
The incident has left the family and local residents deeply shocked. Police were informed about the incident and further action is underway.
The incident also highlights the risks faced by children and villagers while crossing rivers and other water bodies, particularly when water levels and currents are strong.
