NEW DELHI (Economy India): Jindal Stainless has entered into a Technical Assistance Agreement with Japan’s JFE Steel Corporation to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities for selected ferritic stainless steel grades, marking another step in the company’s efforts to enhance product quality and manufacturing excellence.
Under the agreement, JFE Steel will provide technical assistance aimed at improving product quality, manufacturing practices and process efficiency for the identified ferritic stainless steel grades.
The partnership comes as stainless steel manufacturers increasingly focus on higher-quality, specialised and value-added products to serve applications across automotive, railways, construction, consumer goods and industrial machinery.
Focus on Manufacturing Quality and Process Efficiency
According to Jindal Stainless, the technical collaboration will focus on strengthening manufacturing practices for selected ferritic grades while improving consistency and product quality.
Ferritic stainless steels are chromium-based stainless steels that generally contain little or no nickel. Their combination of corrosion resistance, durability and cost competitiveness makes them suitable for a wide range of applications.
The grades are used in areas including automotive components, railway coaches, kitchen equipment, industrial machinery, construction and other engineering applications.
For Jindal Stainless, the agreement provides an opportunity to leverage JFE Steel’s technical expertise to further strengthen its capabilities in this segment.
Japanese Technical Expertise to Support Indian Manufacturing
JFE Steel is one of Japan’s major steelmakers, while Jindal Stainless is among India’s leading stainless steel producers. The technical partnership brings together Japanese manufacturing expertise and Jindal Stainless’ production capabilities in India.

The company’s FY26 annual report highlights its focus on capacity enhancement, downstream expansion, digitalisation and increasing stainless steel applications. Jindal Stainless has also been investing in technologies such as AI, industrial IoT and predictive analytics to improve operational efficiency.
In FY26, the company said it trained nearly 36,000 fabricators through its Stainless Academy, while cumulative participation crossed 82,000. It also launched ASTRA — Academy for Stainless Steel Technology, Reskilling, and Advancement — to strengthen technical capabilities in areas such as operations, maintenance, automation and metallurgy.
Supporting India’s Specialty Steel Push
Jindal Stainless’ latest agreement with JFE Steel also comes against the backdrop of India’s broader push towards specialty and higher-value steel manufacturing.
Earlier this year, Jindal Stainless signed an MoU with the Ministry of Steel under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) 1.2 scheme for specialty steel. The company said the programme would support capacity augmentation and new value-added products, including specialised alloys and forged products.
The government’s PLI 1.2 initiative is designed to strengthen domestic specialty steel manufacturing and reduce import dependence in strategically important applications.
For Indian stainless steel producers, greater technical capability in specialised grades can therefore support both domestic demand and the country’s broader manufacturing ambitions.
Technology and Value Addition at the Centre
The Jindal Stainless-JFE Steel agreement underlines a broader shift in the Indian steel industry — from simply expanding production capacity to improving product sophistication, consistency and application-specific solutions.
The company has been pursuing downstream expansion and value-added products while strengthening its digital manufacturing ecosystem. Its FY26 report says its Smart Factory 4.0 initiatives use AI, predictive analytics, industrial IoT and real-time dashboards across operations.
