Beijing Welcomes Ceasefire Understanding, Reaffirms Commitment to Expanding Political and Economic Cooperation with Tehran
Beijing (Economy India): China on Thursday welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran to end the recent conflict in West Asia, while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening strategic ties with Tehran.
Speaking at a regular media briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said China supports efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region.
“China welcomes the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran,” Lin said.
Reiterating Beijing’s longstanding relationship with Tehran, he said China remains committed to advancing its comprehensive strategic partnership with Iran.
“As a comprehensive strategic partner of Iran, China stands ready to consolidate and deepen political mutual trust with Iran, enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and bring the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership forward,” he said.
China Signals Continued Support for Iran
The statement underlines China’s intention to maintain and expand its economic and diplomatic engagement with Iran despite evolving geopolitical dynamics in West Asia.
China and Iran have steadily strengthened ties in recent years, particularly in the areas of energy, infrastructure, trade and connectivity.
In 2021, the two countries signed a 25-year comprehensive cooperation agreement aimed at boosting long-term collaboration across multiple sectors.
China remains one of Iran’s largest trading partners and a major buyer of Iranian crude oil.
Regional Stability in Focus
Beijing has consistently called for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts in West Asia, advocating peaceful solutions through negotiations.
Analysts say China’s endorsement of the US-Iran agreement reflects its broader interest in ensuring stability in a region critical to global energy supplies and international trade routes.
A prolonged conflict in West Asia could disrupt oil markets, affect shipping lanes and create wider economic uncertainties for major importing nations, including China.
Growing Chinese Influence in West Asia
Over the past decade, China has expanded its diplomatic footprint across West Asia, positioning itself as a key economic partner for several countries in the region.
Beijing has sought to balance its relationships with multiple regional powers while promoting economic cooperation under initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative.
China’s continued engagement with Iran is expected to play an important role in shaping regional geopolitics and energy security in the coming years.
