MUMBAI | Economy India: India’s gems and jewellery exports rose 3.14 per cent year-on-year to USD 2.30 billion (Rs 21,945.87 crore) in August 2026, supported by strong shipments of value-added jewellery, according to the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

The sector had recorded exports of USD 2.23 billion (Rs 19,503.52 crore) in August 2025, GJEPC data showed.

The latest growth highlights the continued resilience of India’s gems and jewellery export industry despite changing global demand conditions and fluctuations in international markets.

Gold Jewellery Exports Grow Nearly 12%

Gold jewellery exports, including both plain and studded jewellery, recorded particularly strong growth during the month.

Exports in this segment increased 11.81 per cent year-on-year to USD 999.83 million (Rs 9,546.12 crore) in August.

According to GJEPC, the increase was supported by robust demand from key international markets, including the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Kingdom and France.

The strong performance of gold jewellery indicates growing demand for higher-value and finished jewellery products from overseas buyers.

Value-Added Jewellery Supports Export Growth

The growth in overall exports was primarily supported by shipments of value-added jewellery. Indian exporters have increasingly focused on finished and processed products that offer greater value compared with the export of raw or less-processed materials.

Value addition has become an important part of India’s strategy to strengthen its position in the global gems and jewellery supply chain and increase the contribution of the sector to merchandise exports.

The shift towards higher-value products can also help exporters improve margins and build stronger relationships with international markets.

US Remains an Important Market

The United States continues to be among the key destinations for Indian jewellery exports. Demand from the US, along with markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK and France, contributed to the growth in gold jewellery shipments during August.

These markets remain important for Indian jewellery manufacturers and exporters, particularly for finished and studded products.

Outlook for India’s Jewellery Export Sector

The August performance comes as the industry continues to navigate global economic uncertainty, changing consumer preferences and movements in precious-metal prices.

Industry players are increasingly looking towards product innovation, design, branding and value addition to maintain competitiveness in international markets.

The latest GJEPC figures suggest that value-added jewellery and gold jewellery exports are emerging as important growth drivers for India’s gems and jewellery trade.

With demand remaining firm in several major overseas markets, the sector is expected to continue focusing on higher-value products and expanding its international market presence.
