New Delhi, (Economy India): Gold prices in the national capital declined sharply on Friday, falling by Rs 2,500 to Rs 1,46,300 per 10 grams as elevated prices continued to discourage buyers during the Dhanteras festive period.
The decline came amid weak spot demand, indicating that high prevailing gold prices are weighing on consumer purchasing decisions even during one of India’s most important gold-buying occasions.
According to the All India Sarafa Association, gold of 99.9 per cent purity slipped to Rs 1,46,300 per 10 grams, inclusive of all taxes, compared with Rs 1,48,800 per 10 grams at Thursday’s close.
Silver prices also moved lower, declining by Rs 2,000 per kilogram to Rs 1,92,500, inclusive of all taxes, from Rs 1,94,500 per kilogram in the previous trading session.

Gold Loses Rs 2,500 Amid Weak Festive Buying
The Rs 2,500 decline in gold prices reflects subdued demand in the Delhi bullion market, where elevated rates have kept prospective buyers cautious.
Dhanteras traditionally marks an important occasion for purchasing gold, silver, jewellery and other precious metals. Many households consider buying gold during the festival auspicious, making it a significant period for jewellers and bullion traders.
However, the latest price movement suggests that high acquisition costs are influencing purchasing decisions.
With 99.9 per cent pure gold trading at Rs 1.46 lakh per 10 grams, buyers are facing a substantial financial commitment even for relatively small purchases.
Silver Prices Also Decline by Rs 2,000 per Kg
Silver followed gold’s downward movement in the national capital.
According to the All India Sarafa Association, silver prices fell by Rs 2,000 to Rs 1,92,500 per kilogram, inclusive of all taxes, against the previous session’s closing level of Rs 1,94,500 per kilogram.
The decline indicates weakness across both major precious metals in the Delhi spot market.
Silver is widely purchased for jewellery, coins, utensils and investment purposes, particularly during festive occasions. Its price movement is therefore closely watched by consumers, traders and bullion market participants.
High Gold Prices Keep Dhanteras Buyers Cautious
Dhanteras is traditionally associated with purchases of precious metals and is considered an important occasion for the jewellery industry.
Gold purchases during the festival range from jewellery and coins to smaller investment products. Retail demand during this period is an important indicator of consumer sentiment in India’s precious metals market.
However, elevated prices can affect the quantity consumers are willing to purchase. Buyers may choose lighter jewellery, smaller coins or postpone purchases when prices remain high.
The latest decline may provide some relief to consumers, although gold continues to trade at a high absolute price level.

What the Latest Gold and Silver Prices Mean for Buyers
The latest Delhi market rates highlight the continuing cost pressure on households planning festive purchases.
| Precious metal | Previous price | November 6 price | Decline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold (99.9% purity) | Rs 1,48,800/10 gm | Rs 1,46,300/10 gm | Rs 2,500 |
| Silver | Rs 1,94,500/kg | Rs 1,92,500/kg | Rs 2,000 |

Consumers should also remember that the final retail price of jewellery can differ from the quoted bullion rate because of making charges, product design, applicable taxes and jeweller-specific pricing.
Delhi Bullion Market Watches Festive Demand
The decline in gold and silver prices comes at a time when jewellers and bullion traders are closely monitoring consumer activity during the festive season.
Dhanteras is generally an important sales period for India’s jewellery trade, but price volatility can influence both the timing and size of purchases.
For retailers, the challenge is to attract customers while precious metal prices remain elevated. For consumers, the decision involves balancing traditional festive buying preferences with household budgets.
Gold and Silver Remain in Focus During the Festive Season
Gold and silver continue to hold an important place in Indian household savings, jewellery purchases and investment decisions.
The latest fall in Delhi prices offers a modest reduction from Thursday’s levels, but the broader market remains sensitive to consumer demand and price movements.
With gold declining by Rs 2,500 and silver by Rs 2,000 per kilogram on Friday, the Delhi bullion market recorded a weaker session on Dhanteras.
The key question for jewellery retailers is whether lower prices will encourage additional buying or whether consumers will continue to remain cautious amid elevated precious metal rates.
