NEW DELHI, (Economy India): The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has approved a Rs 334.89-crore internal flyover at Visakhapatnam Port Authority to improve cargo evacuation, reduce congestion and streamline the movement of goods within the port premises.

The project is expected to address a key bottleneck in cargo movement at the port by creating a dedicated elevated corridor for smoother transportation. Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the project would help enable faster cargo movement and improve the overall operational efficiency of the port.

The proposed flyover will be a 3.584-km elevated corridor connecting Convent Junction with the Dock Area. A major objective of the project is to separate road and rail traffic inside the port, which is expected to reduce delays and improve traffic management.

Visakhapatnam Port is an important maritime gateway on India’s eastern coast and handles a wide range of cargo. Improving internal connectivity is expected to support more efficient cargo evacuation and strengthen logistics operations.

The project is also likely to benefit industries and businesses dependent on the port by helping reduce congestion and improving the movement of goods between port facilities and connecting transport networks.

The investment is part of the government’s broader efforts to modernise port infrastructure and improve logistics efficiency across India’s major ports. The elevated corridor is expected to provide a more streamlined transportation system within the Visakhapatnam Port premises once completed.
