Kalyan Bainsla was arrested from Rajasthan after Gurugram Police added an attempt-to-murder charge following allegations by biker Shivani Chauhan.

GURUGRAM (Economy India): Gurugram Police have arrested Kalyan Bainsla, the driver accused of hitting a woman biker and fleeing the scene, from Rajgarh in Rajasthan, police said on Tuesday.

The arrest came two days after Bainsla’s speeding Maruti Ciaz allegedly rammed into a Aprilia RS 457 ridden by Delhi resident Shivani Chauhan, who identifies herself as Sia on social media.

The incident occurred on Golf Course Road in Gurugram on Sunday and subsequently triggered widespread discussion on social media after videos of the alleged hit-and-run surfaced online.

Attempt to Murder Charge Added

Gurugram Police added a charge of attempt to murder under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a video released by Sia in which she levelled serious allegations against Bainsla.

The provision carries imprisonment of up to 10 years.

Police had initially registered the case at the Sector-56 police station under Section 281 of the BNS for rash driving and Section 125 for causing hurt.

ACP (Headquarters) Abhilaksh Joshi said police had earlier taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and registered the case.

Biker Alleges Car Deliberately Hit Her

In her social media video, Sia questioned why the driver did not stop after the collision if the incident was simply an accident.

She alleged that she was targeted because she is a woman biker and claimed there was a deliberate attempt to stop her. She also said the driver did not check whether she was safe after the collision.

“I feel ashamed of such people. Women feel unsafe on the roads of Delhi and Gurugram,” she said.

Sia also said that the videos circulating online provide evidence of what happened. One video appears to capture the collision and the car leaving the scene.

Another video, recorded by a rider travelling behind the group, has also gone viral on social media.

Another Rider’s Video Raises Questions

A video posted by Instagram user ‘youknowabhishek_’ allegedly shows the car driver first signalling Sia to stop.

According to the rider who shared the footage, when she did not stop, the car was steered towards her sports bike and struck it from the side.

The rider also expressed concern about women’s safety on Gurugram’s roads.

Police are examining the available video footage as part of the investigation.

Driver Says Collision Was Accidental

Bainsla has denied deliberately hitting Sia and maintained that the incident was an accident.

He said a group of around 20 to 22 motorcyclists passed his car and that he did not realise a young woman was riding one of the motorcycles.

According to Bainsla, he had asked Sia and another rider accompanying her to slow down. He claimed that he subsequently lost control of his vehicle near a U-turn, resulting in the collision.

“It was my fault; I admit it,” he said, while denying that he intentionally hit the motorcycle.

Bainsla Says He Fled Fearing Attack

Bainsla, who is a gym owner and describes himself as an international kabaddi player, said he left the scene because he feared that the group of bikers would attack him and his family.

He said he was travelling with his sister and two cousins at the time.

“I was travelling with my family. I didn’t make any gestures at the young woman; I simply asked her to ride her bike slowly,” he said.

Bainsla also said that he had admitted the collision but feared that stopping immediately could have resulted in the group assaulting him.

His Instagram account has reportedly been deactivated following the controversy.

Police Investigation Underway

Gurugram Police had earlier formed three special teams to trace the accused after identifying him.

With Bainsla now arrested, investigators are expected to examine the video evidence, statements of witnesses and the circumstances surrounding the collision and subsequent flight from the scene.

The case has attracted significant attention online, particularly around allegations concerning road safety and the safety of women motorcyclists in Gurugram.
