Chief Minister Alleges E20 Fuel Is Causing Problems for Vehicle Owners; Appeals for Public Support Through Online Petition

Chandigarh (Economy India): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Centre over the supply of E20 petrol, alleging that consumers are facing “injustice” due to the fuel blend and urging people across the country to unite against the issue.

In a video message, Mann appealed to citizens to support a campaign initiated by Arvind Kejriwal by signing an online petition demanding action on concerns related to E20 fuel.

Mann Alleges Consumer Inconvenience

The Punjab Chief Minister claimed that motorists using E20 petrol are experiencing problems with their vehicles, including motorcycles and other automobiles.

He alleged that consumers are being adversely affected by the mandatory availability of E20 fuel and called for greater public awareness on the issue.

Appeal for Nationwide Support

Mann urged people from across India to participate in the online campaign and sign the petition, saying the initiative aims to bring public concerns before Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to him, widespread public participation would encourage the central government to review its policy on E20 petrol.

What Is E20 Petrol?

E20 petrol is a fuel blend containing 20% ethanol and 80% petrol. The Government of India has been promoting ethanol blending as part of its strategy to:

  • Reduce dependence on imported crude oil
  • Lower carbon emissions
  • Support sugarcane farmers and biofuel production
  • Improve India’s energy security
  • Promote cleaner transportation

Automobile manufacturers have introduced E20-compatible vehicles, while older vehicles may have varying levels of compatibility depending on manufacturer specifications.

Debate Over E20 Fuel

The issue has generated public discussion regarding vehicle compatibility, maintenance, mileage, and long-term engine performance.

While supporters argue that ethanol blending helps reduce fossil fuel imports and environmental pollution, some consumer groups and political leaders have raised concerns about its impact on vehicles that were not originally designed for higher ethanol blends.

Industry experts generally advise vehicle owners to follow the recommendations provided by their respective automobile manufacturers regarding E20 fuel compatibility.
