A tribute to her father Ravindrabhai Dalal; specialised paediatric chemo ward to offer treatment with dignity, comfort and compassion

Mumbai (Economy India): In a significant step towards expanding accessible healthcare in India, Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita M. Ambani inaugurated a new cancer and dialysis facility named ‘Jeevan’ in Mumbai. The centre has been dedicated to her late father Ravindrabhai Dalal, whose values of empathy, humanity, and service form the philosophical foundation of the project. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani was also present during the inauguration ceremony.

The launch of ‘Jeevan’ comes at a time when cancer and renal-related illnesses are rising nationwide, placing immense stress on both families and the public healthcare ecosystem. The centre aims to provide patient-centric medical care that combines modern treatment with emotional support — a gap that many families struggle with during long-term medical journeys.

A Vision Rooted in Personal Legacy

Addressing the gathering, Nita Ambani noted that ‘Jeevan’ reflects the values she inherited from her father.

“This centre is not just a building, but a promise — a promise of compassion, dignity, and healing for every life that walks through its doors,” she said.

She also highlighted that the centre is a symbol of continuity — carrying forward her father’s belief that healthcare must treat “the person, not just the illness.”

Paediatric Chemotherapy Ward: Designed for Comfort, Built with Heart

One of the defining features of the new centre is a dedicated paediatric chemotherapy ward — developed to reduce emotional distress for young patients undergoing treatment.
Key features include:

  • Child-friendly interiors to reduce fear and anxiety
  • Family seating zones for constant parental presence
  • Counselling and emotional wellness support
  • Play & therapy spaces for psychological balance
  • Strict infection control and specialised monitoring

This initiative aligns with global best practices that recognise emotional care as an essential component of recovery — especially for children battling life-threatening disease.

Dialysis & Oncology Services: Combining Scale With Sensitivity

The dialysis centre within ‘Jeevan’ aims to reduce the financial and physical burden on families who require multiple sessions every week. Meanwhile, the oncology division is equipped for:

  • Early-detection diagnostics
  • Chemotherapy and day-care treatment
  • Nutrition & recovery guidance
  • Palliative and support-care services

Healthcare experts believe the centre will help address the widening treatment gap for chronic illnesses, particularly in urban regions where demand far exceeds available capacity.

Reliance Foundation’s Wider Health Footprint

The facility strengthens Reliance Foundation’s growing role in Indian healthcare, which also includes:

  • Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai
  • National cancer screening and prevention drives
  • Mobile medical units in rural districts
  • Women’s health initiatives & telemedicine support

These programmes collectively serve millions each year, making Reliance Foundation one of the most influential private-sector contributors to healthcare access in the country.

Festival Season Launch: A Symbol of Giving Back

The inauguration coincides with the festive season — a period associated with gratitude, community and giving. The timing underlines the centre’s message: that healthcare should be anchored not only in medical science, but also in human belonging.

As Nita Ambani stated:

“Every patient who enters this centre will not just receive treatment — they will receive care.”

A Step Forward for Social Healthcare

With India’s healthcare system experiencing pressure from rising non-communicable diseases, the opening of ‘Jeevan’ marks a meaningful stride in bridging affordability, accessibility, and compassionate treatment.

The centre stands as a reminder that healthcare reform is not measured only in beds or machines — but in how a society chooses to care for its most vulnerable.
