( Economy India ): A suspected case of food poisoning at a government residential school in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district led to 147 girl students falling ill on Friday, prompting a swift response from local health authorities. The incident occurred after the students reportedly consumed food served at the school, following which several of them complained of symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.

According to officials, 102 students are currently undergoing treatment at the Chuda Community Health Centre, while 45 others were shifted to two hospitals in Surendranagar for further medical care and observation. Medical teams acted quickly to ensure that all affected students received timely treatment.

Authorities have confirmed that all 147 girls are in stable condition, and there is no immediate threat to their lives. Doctors are closely monitoring their health, and officials have assured parents that the students are receiving proper medical attention.

Following the incident, the district administration and the health department launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning. Food samples collected from the school kitchen have been sent for laboratory testing, while officials are also inspecting the kitchen, food storage facilities, and hygiene standards maintained at the residential school.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of maintaining strict food safety and hygiene practices in schools, particularly in government-run residential institutions where hundreds of students depend on daily meals provided on campus. Authorities have stated that appropriate action will be taken if any negligence is found during the investigation.

Parents and local residents have expressed concern over the incident, while officials have assured that every necessary step is being taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
