Student Claims OMR Sheet Corrections but Questions Final Score; Appeals to Education Ministry and NTA for Investigation

New Delhi (Economy India): A fresh controversy has emerged over the NEET-UG 2026 results after a student from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, alleged that the National Testing Agency (NTA) displayed two different scores on its official website within a span of just a few hours.

The student, Arya Singh, has claimed that discrepancies in her OMR sheet and the subsequent score updates have raised serious questions about the result declaration process. She has submitted a formal complaint to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Ministry of Education, requesting a thorough investigation into the matter.

Student Alleges Two Different Scores

According to Arya Singh, when she accessed the NTA’s official website around 12 midnight, the score displayed was 540 marks. However, when she checked the portal again around 2:00 AM, the displayed score had reportedly changed to 167 marks.

The student has stated that she possesses screenshots and other digital records to support her claim and has attached these as evidence in her complaint to the authorities.

OMR Sheet Discrepancy

Arya further alleged that when the NTA initially uploaded her OMR response sheet on July 13, the sequence of question numbers did not match the examination booklet.

After comparing her responses, she claimed that her calculated score should have been approximately 609 marks based on the corrected answer key.

She subsequently filed an objection through the NTA’s official challenge portal regarding the question sequence.

Updated OMR, But Questions Remain

According to the student, the NTA later uploaded a revised OMR sheet in which the sequence of question numbers was corrected.

However, she alleges that despite the corrections, discrepancies regarding the displayed score remained, prompting her to seek a detailed review of her result.

She has urged the examination authority to conduct an independent verification of her answer sheet and score calculation.

Complaint Sent to Authorities

Arya Singh has reportedly emailed her complaint, along with supporting documents and screenshots, to the National Testing Agency and the Union Education Ministry.

She has requested a transparent investigation into the alleged inconsistencies and sought clarification regarding the score displayed on the official portal.

NTA Yet to Issue Official Response

At the time of publishing this report, the National Testing Agency had not issued any official statement specifically responding to the student’s allegations.

Economy India has not independently verified the student’s claims. The allegations are based on the complaint submitted by the candidate. Any conclusions regarding the matter will depend on the findings of the competent authorities.

Importance of Transparency

NEET is one of India’s largest and most competitive entrance examinations for undergraduate medical admissions, with lakhs of candidates appearing every year.

Experts say that any reported discrepancies relating to OMR sheets, score calculation, or result publication require prompt examination to maintain transparency and public confidence in the examination process.

Students and parents are now awaiting an official clarification from the NTA regarding the allegations and any further action, if deemed necessary.
