Gold Slips to ₹1.58 Lakh per 10 Grams; Silver Plunges ₹5,730 to ₹2.35 Lakh per Kg Amid Heavy Selling
New Delhi (Economy India): Gold prices declined in the national capital on Wednesday as a rise in crude oil prices and continued geopolitical uncertainty weighed on sentiment in the bullion market.
According to the All India Sarafa Association, gold of 99.9 per cent purity fell by ₹800 to ₹1,58,000 per 10 grams on Wednesday.
The precious metal had closed at ₹1,58,800 per 10 grams on Tuesday.
The decline came amid changing investor sentiment as markets continued to assess developments in global commodity prices and geopolitical risks.

Silver Prices Fall Sharply
Silver witnessed a much steeper decline during the session, falling by ₹5,730 per kilogram.
The precious metal dropped to ₹2,35,000 per kg, inclusive of all taxes, from the previous close of ₹2,40,730 per kg.
The sharp fall was attributed to heavy selling pressure in the silver market.
Gold and Silver Prices at a Glance
| Commodity | Previous Price | Wednesday Price | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold (99.9% purity) | ₹1,58,800/10g | ₹1,58,000/10g | -₹800 |
| Silver | ₹2,40,730/kg | ₹2,35,000/kg | -₹5,730 |
Why Are Gold Prices Falling?
Gold prices are being influenced by a combination of global and domestic market factors.
One of the important factors cited in the latest movement is the rise in crude oil prices.
Higher crude prices can influence inflation expectations and financial-market sentiment, prompting investors to reassess their positions across commodities and other asset classes.
At the same time, geopolitical uncertainty continues to influence global markets, creating fluctuations in demand for safe-haven assets such as gold.
Gold Remains Near Record Levels
Despite Wednesday’s decline, gold remains at an exceptionally high price level.
At ₹1.58 lakh per 10 grams, the yellow metal continues to trade at historically elevated levels in the domestic market.
The latest fall therefore represents a correction rather than a sharp reversal in the broader high-price environment.
Silver Sees Stronger Selling Pressure
Silver’s decline was considerably larger than gold’s in percentage terms.
The metal fell by ₹5,730 per kg in a single session, reflecting significant selling activity.
Silver prices can be influenced by both investment demand and industrial demand because the metal is widely used in sectors such as electronics, solar energy and other industrial applications.
This can make silver more sensitive to changes in broader market expectations.

Crude Oil and Bullion Markets
Gold, crude oil and other commodities are closely watched by investors because movements in one market can influence expectations in another.
A sustained rise in crude oil prices can increase concerns about inflation and affect expectations around interest rates and economic growth.
Such changes can influence the attractiveness of precious metals and other investments.
Geopolitical Uncertainty Remains a Key Factor
Global geopolitical developments continue to remain an important driver of commodity markets.
Gold is traditionally considered a safe-haven asset during periods of uncertainty. However, its price can fluctuate significantly depending on currency movements, interest-rate expectations, investor positioning and developments in other commodity markets.
The latest decline shows that safe-haven demand does not necessarily prevent short-term corrections.
What Investors Should Watch
Market participants will continue to monitor several factors that could influence gold and silver prices in the coming sessions:
- International crude oil prices
- Global geopolitical developments
- US dollar movements
- Interest-rate expectations
- Central-bank policies
- Investment demand for precious metals
- Domestic bullion demand
Any significant change in these factors could influence the direction of gold and silver prices.
