Bilaspur and Ambikapur Now Connected to Delhi and Kolkata; New Routes Strengthen Regional Mobility

CG/RAIGARH (Economy India): Chhattisgarh has witnessed significant growth in regional air connectivity under the Government of India’s flagship UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, bringing improved transportation access to several emerging cities across the state.

The expansion of air services has connected key destinations such as Raipur, Bilaspur, Ambikapur, and Jagdalpur with one another and with major metropolitan cities across the country, providing a major boost to passenger convenience, tourism, trade, and regional economic development.

Commercial flight operations on these routes are currently being handled by leading carriers including IndiGo and Alliance Air.

Ambikapur Gains Direct Access to Major Cities

The Darima Airport in Ambikapur has become an important gateway for northern Chhattisgarh, offering direct flight services to:

  • Delhi
  • Kolkata
  • Bilaspur

The improved air links are expected to reduce travel time significantly and improve access to commercial, educational, and healthcare facilities in larger urban centers.

Jagdalpur Connectivity Strengthens Bastar Region

In southern Chhattisgarh, Jagdalpur Airport continues to play a crucial role in improving connectivity for the Bastar region.

Passengers can currently access direct flights from Jagdalpur to:

  • Raipur
  • Hyderabad

The routes are expected to support tourism, industrial development, administrative efficiency, and investment opportunities in the region.

Raipur Continues as Chhattisgarh’s Aviation Gateway

The Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur, the state’s largest airport, remains the primary aviation hub connecting Chhattisgarh to major national destinations.

Regular flights operate from Raipur to key metropolitan cities including:

  • Delhi
  • Mumbai
  • Bengaluru
  • Hyderabad
  • Kolkata
  • Chennai
  • Pune

The airport continues to witness steady growth in passenger traffic as demand for air travel increases across the state.

UDAN Scheme Driving Regional Development

Launched by the Government of India to make air travel affordable and accessible, the UDAN scheme has played a transformative role in improving regional connectivity across the country.

In Chhattisgarh, the initiative has helped integrate remote and underserved regions into the national transportation network, creating new opportunities for:

  • Economic development
  • Tourism promotion
  • Business expansion
  • Employment generation
  • Faster movement of people and goods

Improved air connectivity is also expected to attract greater private investment and strengthen the state’s role in India’s growing regional aviation ecosystem.

Future Outlook

With regional air travel demand rising steadily, aviation experts believe Chhattisgarh is well-positioned to benefit from further expansion of air routes and airport infrastructure.

The continued success of the UDAN scheme is expected to enhance connectivity, improve accessibility, and support inclusive economic growth across the state.
