New Framework Aims to Strengthen Exports Through Branding, Packaging and Global Market Positioning
New Delhi (Economy India): In a major push to enhance the global competitiveness of Indian products, the Government of India on Tuesday released comprehensive operational and procedural guidelines for the ‘Brand India‘ Global Outreach Initiative. The framework is designed to promote Indian products in international markets through improved branding, labelling, packaging, and global marketing strategies.
The initiative is a key component of the ₹25,060-crore Export Promotion Mission, announced to accelerate India’s export growth and strengthen its position in global value chains.
Building a Strong Global Brand
The newly issued guidelines provide a structured roadmap for promoting Indian products under a unified ‘Brand India’ identity. The initiative seeks to improve the visibility and perception of Indian goods across international markets by encouraging world-class branding standards and export-ready packaging.
The government believes that a stronger national brand will help Indian exporters compete more effectively in premium global markets.
Focus on Branding and Export Packaging
Under the initiative, exporters will receive guidance on adopting internationally accepted standards for:
- Product branding
- Labelling and certification
- Export packaging
- Marketing and promotional campaigns
- Global outreach activities
These measures are expected to improve product appeal, enhance consumer confidence, and create greater value for Indian exports.
Part of ₹25,060-Crore Export Promotion Mission
The Brand India initiative forms part of the government’s ₹25,060-crore Export Promotion Mission, aimed at supporting exporters, improving market access, and expanding India’s global trade footprint.
The mission aligns with India’s broader objective of increasing merchandise and services exports while strengthening the country’s manufacturing ecosystem.
Boost for MSMEs and Exporters
Industry experts believe the initiative will particularly benefit micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by helping them establish internationally recognizable brands and access new overseas markets.
Improved branding and packaging can enable Indian companies to command better pricing, build customer loyalty, and compete with established international brands.
Supporting India’s Export Ambitions
The release of the guidelines comes as India continues to pursue an ambitious export-led growth strategy through free trade agreements, production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes, logistics improvements, and digital trade facilitation.
A globally recognized Brand India is expected to enhance the country’s reputation for quality, innovation, and reliability, supporting long-term economic growth and export diversification.
