New Delhi (Economy India): In a significant move towards establishing India as a global automotive leader, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has launched the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047). This roadmap is strategically aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047” and aims to transform the Indian automotive industry through innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
Under the guidance of Union Minister of Heavy Industries & Steel, Mr. H.D. Kumaraswamy, the initiative builds upon the achievements of previous automotive mission plans that helped drive robust growth through stakeholder collaboration.
🌐 A Strategic Vision for India’s Automotive Future
The AMP 2047 plan aspires to significantly increase India’s share in the global automotive trade by focusing on:
- Innovation-led growth
- Technological advancement
- Green and sustainable mobility
- Infrastructure readiness (including charging ecosystems)
The kick-off meeting of the AMP 2047 Sub-Committees brought together key stakeholders including representatives from various central ministries, industry bodies (SIAM, ACMA, CII, FICCI), academia, policy think tanks, and testing agencies.
Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, MHI, emphasized, “This is not merely an aspirational document but a strategic, outcome-driven roadmap for industry growth, exports, and innovation. We must think beyond current technologies and companies and focus on India’s global stature in 2047.”
🧩 Multi-Stakeholder, Industry-Driven Approach
The AMP 2047 framework will be shaped by seven expert sub-committees consisting of government officials, OEMs, component manufacturers, academics, and policy leaders. These committees are tasked with charting milestones for:
- 2030
- 2037
- 2047
They will address key challenges such as EV infrastructure, emissions, automation, and supply chain sustainability.
Ministries represented in the process include:
- Ministry of Power
- Ministry of Road Transport & Highways
- Ministry of Commerce
- Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas
- DPIIT
- Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change

📈 A Roadmap to Atmanirbhar and Sustainable Mobility
The AMP 2047 aims to foster an Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) and technologically advanced automotive ecosystem. With structured collaboration among ministries, industry, and academia, India seeks to become a top global hub for automotive manufacturing and innovation by 2047.
Secretary Kamran Rizvi, who chairs the top-level steering committee, will oversee the consolidation of inputs and presentation of final recommendations.
MHI has extended gratitude to all stakeholders and anticipates continued cooperation in realizing the Viksit Bharat dream.
