602 Km of Roads, 186 Bridges Sanctioned Across Multiple States

New Delhi (Economy India): In a major push for rural connectivity, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved ₹1,300 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for the construction of 115 new roads covering 602 km and 186 bridges across multiple states. The move aims to enhance rural infrastructure, boost connectivity, and support economic development in remote areas.

Massive Infrastructure Boost Under PMGSY-III

As part of PMGSY-III, the Ministry of Rural Development sanctioned road and bridge projects worth ₹1,301.02 crore in March 2025 alone. These projects cover key states, including:

✅ Andhra Pradesh – 8 roads (60.42 km), 3 bridges
✅ Arunachal Pradesh – 1 road (7.87 km), 1 bridge
✅ Bihar – 5 roads (33.65 km), 103 bridges
✅ Himachal Pradesh – 21 bridges
✅ Manipur – 41 roads (280.97 km)
✅ Madhya Pradesh – 6 bridges
✅ Mizoram – 7 bridges
✅ Puducherry – 41 roads (107.83 km)
✅ Punjab – 4 roads (31.07 km), 35 bridges
✅ Tamil Nadu – 12 roads (59.24 km)
✅ Uttar Pradesh – 3 roads (21.90 km), 1 bridge
✅ Uttarakhand – 9 bridges

This extensive development plan will significantly enhance connectivity in rural and hilly areas, facilitating easier access to markets, healthcare, and educational institutions.


PM Janman Yojana: ₹647.50 Crore Approved for 428 Roads & 2 Bridges

In addition to PMGSY, the government has sanctioned ₹647.50 crore under the PM Janman Yojana (PMJANMAN) for constructing 428 rural roads spanning 886.61 km and two bridges in key states:

✅ Madhya Pradesh – 377 roads (738.99 km)
✅ Odisha – 26 roads (63.27 km), 2 bridges
✅ Tripura – 25 roads (84.35 km)

Furthermore, during March 2025, state authorities successfully completed the construction of 343 roads spanning 3,410 km and 154 bridges, enhancing connectivity in previously underserved regions.

₹4,851 Crore Central Funding Released for Faster Implementation

To accelerate the pace of rural infrastructure development, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has disbursed ₹4,851 crore as the central share for various states. This fund allocation ensures timely execution of approved projects. Key beneficiaries include:

📌 Uttar Pradesh – ₹500 crore
📌 Jammu & Kashmir – ₹342.75 crore
📌 Madhya Pradesh – ₹165 crore
📌 Bihar – ₹157 crore
📌 Himachal Pradesh – ₹309 crore
📌 Tamil Nadu – ₹378 crore
📌 Odisha – ₹233 crore
📌 West Bengal – ₹110 crore
📌 Rajasthan – ₹89 crore
📌 Gujarat – ₹73 crore

These funds will be utilized to expedite the construction process, ensuring the projects are completed within the stipulated timeline.

Incentive Grant of ₹870 Crore for High-Performing States

Recognizing the efficient implementation of PMGSY in certain states, the government has announced an incentive package of ₹870 crore to encourage quality infrastructure development. Top-performing states include:

✔ Bihar – ₹138 crore
✔ Madhya Pradesh – ₹177 crore
✔ Tamil Nadu – ₹61 crore
✔ Assam – ₹112 crore
✔ Rajasthan – ₹130 crore
✔ Chhattisgarh – ₹92 crore

These funds will be used for road maintenance and upgradation, ensuring that existing roads remain in optimal condition for long-term usability.


Why This Rural Infrastructure Push Matters

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has been a cornerstone of rural development, significantly improving road connectivity in remote villages, tribal areas, and hilly terrains. The latest approvals will:

✅ Enhance rural mobility – Providing faster access to markets, schools, and hospitals
✅ Boost local economies – Facilitating agriculture, trade, and employment opportunities
✅ Strengthen national connectivity – Bridging the urban-rural divide with modern infrastructure
✅ Promote sustainability – Using eco-friendly construction practices and high-quality materials

According to Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the government is committed to improving rural road networks as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047.
