(Economy India):India’s benchmark stock indices ended Thursday’s trading session on a mixed note, with the BSE Sensex rising 373.76 points (0.48%) to close at 78,954.76, supported by strong buying in heavyweight stocks such as Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank. Positive investor sentiment was further aided by moderation in global crude oil prices, which eased concerns over inflation and import costs.

The 30-share BSE Sensex remained in positive territory throughout the trading session, reflecting sustained buying interest in select blue-chip stocks. Despite the overall gain, market participation remained mixed, with 11 Sensex stocks ending higher, 16 closing lower, and three remaining unchanged, indicating that gains were concentrated in a handful of large-cap companies.

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty 50 traded in a narrow range for most of the day and ended almost unchanged. The benchmark index closed 11.35 points, or 0.05%, higher at 24,636. During the session, Nifty touched an intraday high of 24,677.05 and a low of 24,604.15, reflecting cautious trading by investors ahead of fresh domestic and global economic cues.

Market experts said that easing crude oil prices provided support to investor confidence, as lower oil prices are generally considered positive for the Indian economy. A decline in crude prices can help reduce inflationary pressures, improve corporate profitability, and lower the country’s import bill.

Heavyweight stocks played a crucial role in lifting the Sensex. Buying in Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, and a few other large-cap companies offset weakness in several other sectors. However, profit booking in select stocks kept the broader market range-bound, preventing a stronger rally in the Nifty.

Investors also remained focused on upcoming corporate earnings, global market trends, and expectations surrounding interest rates. Analysts believe that while the Indian equity market continues to show resilience, short-term movements are likely to remain volatile due to mixed global signals and sector-specific developments.

Overall, Thursday’s session highlighted the strength of India’s blue-chip companies, with the Sensex posting healthy gains despite a flat finish in the Nifty. Market participants will now look toward upcoming macroeconomic data, foreign institutional investor (FII) activity, and global developments for further direction.
