Mumbai (Economy India): Maruti Suzuki India has expanded its factory-fitted S-CNG portfolio with the launch of automatic CNG variants of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno, combining the convenience of automated manual transmission (AMT) with the fuel-efficiency benefits of CNG.

The new models have been introduced under the automaker’s Auto Green Mission, as demand for CNG-powered vehicles continues to grow. Maruti Suzuki said sales of its S-CNG vehicles increased 58% year-on-year in the first quarter of the current year.

The new automatic S-CNG range is aimed at customers seeking easier driving in urban traffic while retaining the running-cost advantages associated with CNG technology.

Automatic Convenience Meets CNG Efficiency

The new variants pair Maruti Suzuki’s factory-fitted S-CNG technology with a five-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS), also known as an automated manual transmission.

The combination is designed to offer automatic driving convenience without giving up the efficiency associated with CNG-powered vehicles.

The Dzire S-CNG AMT delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 36.47 km/kg, making it the most fuel-efficient sedan in the country based on the certification cited for the model.

The Swift S-CNG AMT, meanwhile, offers a claimed efficiency of 35.34 km/kg, according to automotive reports.

Prices Start at Rs 7.92 Lakh

The newly launched CNG-AMT range is priced as follows:

  • Maruti Suzuki Swift S-CNG AMT: Rs 7.92 lakh onwards
  • Maruti Suzuki Baleno S-CNG AMT: Rs 8.32 lakh onwards
  • Maruti Suzuki Dzire S-CNG AMT: Rs 8.53 lakh onwards

All prices are ex-showroom.

The Baleno CNG-AMT is offered with selected variants and has a claimed efficiency of 34.47 km/kg.

1.2-Litre Z-Series Engine

The three models use Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre Z-Series engine, paired with the five-speed AMT transmission.

In CNG mode, the engine produces around 70 hp and 101.8 Nm of torque, according to specifications reported for the new range. The vehicles also retain petrol capability, giving customers greater flexibility in fuel choice.

The S-CNG system is factory-fitted, with dedicated CNG components and calibration designed specifically for the vehicles.

Maruti Expands Automatic CNG Portfolio

The launch marks a significant expansion of Maruti Suzuki’s automatic CNG offerings, bringing the powertrain combination to three of its popular models.

The move comes as automakers increasingly explore alternative powertrains that can offer lower running costs while addressing demand for easier urban driving.

With CNG and AMT technology combined, Maruti Suzuki is targeting customers who want the convenience of an automatic car while continuing to prioritise fuel efficiency.

Auto Green Mission Targets New-Age Buyers

Maruti Suzuki said the Auto Green Mission is focused on developing cleaner and more efficient mobility solutions for changing customer requirements.

The company’s latest S-CNG models are aimed particularly at urban motorists who face frequent stop-and-go traffic and are looking for automatic driving convenience.

The launch also strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s presence in the CNG passenger-vehicle segment, where factory-fitted CNG technology has become an important part of its alternative-fuel strategy.

Economy India Takeaway

With the Swift, Dzire and Baleno now available with automatic S-CNG powertrains, Maruti Suzuki is broadening the choices available to buyers seeking a combination of CNG efficiency and automatic driving convenience.

The new range also reflects the changing Indian passenger-vehicle market, where fuel economy, running costs and urban driving convenience are increasingly important considerations for consumers.
