New greenfield plant in Madhya Pradesh is designed to manufacture 220 kV to 1,200 kV class power transformers

SEHORE, MADHYA PRADESH (Economy India): CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd on Friday rolled out the first power transformer from its new greenfield manufacturing facility in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, marking a major milestone for India’s high-voltage power transmission equipment manufacturing sector.

The facility, spread across 50 acres, has been described by the company as India’s largest single-location power transformer manufacturing plant. The plant has been established to manufacture power transformers ranging from 220 kV to 1,200 kV class.

The facility is designed to produce up to 35 transformers per month, strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity for critical equipment used in India’s electricity transmission infrastructure.

The investment is expected to provide a boost to industrial activity in the Sehore region while also creating opportunities across the wider power equipment manufacturing and supply chain ecosystem.

Boost to India’s Power Transmission Infrastructure

High-voltage power transformers play a crucial role in transmitting electricity efficiently over long distances. With India’s electricity demand and renewable energy capacity continuing to expand, the availability of advanced transmission equipment is becoming increasingly important.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said high-voltage transmission equipment would be critical to achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.

The new Sehore facility is therefore expected to contribute to India’s efforts to expand and modernise its transmission infrastructure while strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Manufacturing Up to 1,200 kV Transformers

The plant’s capability to manufacture transformers in the 220 kV to 1,200 kV range positions it to serve requirements associated with high-voltage and extra-high-voltage transmission networks.

With a planned monthly production capacity of 35 transformers, the facility could become an important manufacturing hub for India’s growing power transmission ecosystem.

Madhya Pradesh Emerges as a Manufacturing Hub

The establishment of the large-scale facility further underlines Madhya Pradesh’s efforts to attract major industrial investments and develop manufacturing infrastructure.

For CG Power, the Sehore facility represents an expansion of its manufacturing footprint and capabilities in a strategically important segment of the power sector.

The rollout of the first transformer marks the beginning of commercial manufacturing operations at the greenfield facility and comes at a time when India is investing heavily in strengthening its electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure.
