EU delegation’s Assam visit highlights expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology and sustainability, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saying the state is poised to benefit from stronger India-Europe ties under PM Modi’s leadership.
Guwahati (Economy India): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that Assam’s growing partnership with the European Union (EU) reflects a shared commitment to building resilient, sustainable, and innovation-driven economies that generate opportunities for people while strengthening India-Europe cooperation.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on the final day of a two-day visit by an EU delegation to the state, Sarma highlighted the expanding scope of collaboration between India and the European Union across key sectors including trade, investment, technology, innovation, connectivity, and security.
The Chief Minister said that India and the EU have developed an ambitious roadmap aimed at deepening strategic and economic ties, creating new opportunities for states like Assam to integrate with global value chains and attract international investments.
“Assam’s partnership with the European Union reflects a shared vision of creating resilient, sustainable and innovation-driven economies that benefit people and strengthen India-Europe cooperation,” Sarma said.

Assam Positioned to Benefit
Sarma credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for strengthening India’s global engagement and fostering closer relations with the European Union.
He said Assam is well-positioned to benefit from the growing India-EU partnership, particularly in sectors such as infrastructure, green energy, technology, skill development, manufacturing, and innovation.
According to the Chief Minister, the state’s strategic location in Northeast India, improving connectivity, investor-friendly policies, and focus on industrial growth make it an attractive destination for international partnerships and investments.

Focus on Trade, Technology and Sustainability
The EU delegation’s visit is expected to further strengthen economic and developmental cooperation between Assam and European nations. Discussions reportedly focused on expanding collaboration in sustainable development, climate resilience, digital innovation, renewable energy, and investment opportunities.
The Chief Minister emphasized that stronger engagement with the European Union would help accelerate Assam’s economic transformation while contributing to broader India-Europe strategic cooperation.
Strengthening India-Europe Relations
The visit comes at a time when India and the European Union are seeking deeper engagement across multiple sectors amid changing global economic dynamics. Both sides have been working to enhance trade and investment ties while promoting cooperation in emerging technologies, connectivity projects, and security initiatives.
Sarma said the evolving partnership demonstrates the growing importance of regional states such as Assam in India’s international economic outreach and development agenda.
“The roadmap developed between India and the European Union presents significant opportunities for Assam, and the state stands to benefit tremendously from this expanding cooperation,” he added.
The two-day visit by the EU delegation is being viewed as an important step toward strengthening economic, technological, and developmental partnerships between Assam, India, and the European Union, opening new avenues for investment and innovation-led growth in the region.
