Special police team tracks down accused who allegedly blackmailed dozens of women, demanded money, and threatened a complainant after release from jail.
Raipur (Economy India): In a significant development in one of Chhattisgarh’s most disturbing cybercrime cases, Keshkal Police have re-arrested Aman Virani, the prime accused in an alleged blackmail and extortion racket involving multiple young women from Bastar division.
The latest arrest follows a fresh complaint filed by a woman serving as a central government officer, who had earlier lodged the first FIR against the accused in July 2025.
According to police sources, Virani allegedly threatened the complainant after securing bail and pressured her to withdraw the case. He is also accused of demanding money from the victim, claiming it was compensation for legal expenses incurred during court proceedings.
Allegations of Blackmail and Extortion
Investigators allege that Aman Virani befriended young women through social media and personal contacts, gained their trust, and allegedly lured some of them with promises of marriage.
Police claim that after establishing relationships, the accused secretly obtained private photographs and videos and later used the material to blackmail victims for money and other favors.
The case gained wider attention after reports suggested that several women may have been targeted through a similar pattern over multiple years.
43 Women’s Contacts Found During Earlier Investigation
The accused was previously arrested in 2025 by Kondagaon Police and the cyber crime unit.
During the investigation, police reportedly recovered a mobile phone containing contact details of 43 women. Authorities subsequently contacted the individuals whose numbers were found during the probe.
Following verification, additional complaints were reportedly registered against the accused, strengthening the case against him.
Virani remained in jail for nearly six months before obtaining bail.

Fresh Threats After Release
According to the latest complaint, the accused allegedly began contacting the original complainant after being released on bail.
The victim claims she was threatened with serious consequences if she refused to withdraw the criminal case. She also alleged that the accused repeatedly demanded money and attempted to intimidate her.
After the allegations surfaced publicly, the accused reportedly went into hiding.
Special Police Team Formed
Taking cognizance of the seriousness of the matter, Kondagaon Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra constituted a special investigation team to trace and arrest the accused.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of:
- Additional Superintendent of Police Kapil Chandra
- SDOP Arun Netam
- Keshkal Police Station In-charge Vikas Baghel
The team eventually located and arrested the accused.
Victim Expresses Hope for Justice
Following the arrest, the complainant expressed hope that the legal process would now move forward without intimidation or interference.
Women’s rights advocates have also called for a thorough investigation into all allegations linked to the case and urged authorities to ensure protection for victims and witnesses.
Investigation Continues
Police officials have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional evidence, digital records, and victim statements are being examined.
Authorities are also reviewing whether more individuals may have been affected and whether further legal action is required under cybercrime, extortion, and criminal intimidation provisions.
The accused remains in police custody while further proceedings continue.
