Beijing ( Economy India ): Torrential rainfall and severe flooding have caused widespread devastation in parts of China, claiming at least 20 lives and forcing thousands of residents to evacuate from affected areas. The extreme weather has also led to an unusual incident in which more than 900 snakes escaped from a breeding farm after floodwaters damaged the facility.
According to local authorities, continuous heavy rainfall triggered flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in several regions, damaging homes, roads, bridges, and public infrastructure. Emergency rescue teams have been deployed to evacuate stranded residents and provide relief to affected communities.
One of the most alarming developments occurred when floodwaters inundated a snake breeding farm, allowing hundreds of snakes to escape into nearby areas. Local officials launched an emergency operation to capture the escaped reptiles and advised residents to remain cautious, avoid flooded zones, and immediately report any snake sightings.
Authorities said rescue workers are continuing search and recovery operations as concerns remain over additional rainfall and the possibility of further flooding. Weather agencies have issued alerts for several provinces, warning of heavy rain and potential landslides in vulnerable areas.
The Chinese government has mobilized disaster response teams, emergency supplies, and medical assistance to support affected regions. Officials are also assessing the damage to agriculture, transportation, and public utilities caused by the floods.
Flooding is a recurring challenge in China during the summer monsoon season, often resulting in significant loss of life, property damage, and economic disruption. Experts say changing weather patterns and increasingly intense rainfall events have heightened the risk of flash floods in several parts of the country.
Rescue operations remain underway as authorities work to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of residents in flood-affected areas.
