Synopsis of the Story
Guidelines were issued for grant-in-aid to the families of those who died due to COVID-19. The Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management wrote a letter to the District Collectors, directing them to take necessary actions.
RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh, under the leadership of Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Minister will give Rs. 50,000 grants-in-aid to Families of people who died due to COVID-19, the Govt. said.
Letter issued to all District Collectors
Reeta Shandilya, Secretary, Chhattisgarh Government’s Revenue and Disaster Management Department and Relief Commissioner has sent a letter to all District Collectors of the state and Chairman District Disaster Management Authority of all the districts of the state, a statement said.
Quick action
In the letter, District Collectors have been directed to provide grant-in-aid to the relatives and dependents of the people who died due to COVID-19, in the respective districts, according to the necessary guidelines given by the National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, as per the decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court New Delhi on 30 June 2021, Instructions have been given to the collectors to take necessary action at the earliest.
State Disaster Response Fund
In the letter, it has been stated that COVID-19 is an unprecedented disaster. For the last one and a half years, the death toll due to new variants of the virus has been increasing continuously. Availability of adequate funds under the State Disaster Response Fund is important for timely and effective response to specific disasters in the State.
However, grant-in-aid will not be provided to the next of kin of those who died due to COVID-19. as per the provision contained in the Revenue Book Circular 6-4. As decided by the National Disaster Management Authority, a Grant-in-aid of Rs 50,000 (fifty thousand) will be provided in case of death due to COVID-19 under State Disaster Response Fund.
13563 deaths from COVID-19 in Chhattisgarh
According to the information received from Director Health Services Chhattisgarh, a total of 13 thousand 563 deaths from COVID-19 have been registered in the state till 22 September 2021. The concerned families will submit their claims through the prescribed application form. The applicant must have an official certificate of death from COVID-19 issued by CDAC, the Govt. said.
Direct Benefit Transfer
It is the responsibility of the District Disaster Management Authority and the District Administration to pay the grant to the nearest relative/applicant of the deceased through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). The process of grant-in-aid release should be made simple and the process should be completed within 30 days of submission of required documents.
Arrangements to receive applications
Collectors have been directed to publicize the grant-in-aid provision in their respective districts and to take necessary action in compliance with the guidelines. It would be appropriate that proper arrangements should be made to receive the applications in each tehsil office and district office including office hours in the zone headquarters of the municipal area.
