Reliance Industries-backed Jio Platforms’ ₹30,213-crore public issue sees strong early demand from institutional investors, with qualified institutional buyers subscribing 4.13 times their reserved portion.
NEW DELHI, (Economy India): Jio Platforms Ltd’s ₹30,213-crore initial public offering (IPO) was fully subscribed within just 100 minutes of opening on Wednesday, making it the fastest among India’s mega-issues to receive bids for all shares on offer.
The strong initial response was led by institutional investors, particularly qualified institutional buyers (QIBs), reflecting substantial demand for the telecom and digital services company’s public offering.
According to exchange data, the IPO had received bids for 28.31 crore shares against 19.75 crore shares on offer by 12:33 pm, taking the overall subscription level to 1.43 times.
The issue opened on October 21 and will remain available for subscription until October 23.

Institutional Investors Drive Early IPO Demand
Institutional investors emerged as the biggest contributors to the early demand for the Jio Platforms IPO. The portion reserved for qualified institutional buyers was subscribed 4.13 times, with bids received for 20.23 crore shares against 4.90 crore shares available in the category.
Domestic financial institutions, including banks and insurance companies, bid for 13.40 crore shares. Foreign institutional investors sought 5.94 crore shares, highlighting participation from both domestic and overseas investors.
The strong institutional response helped the issue cross the full-subscription threshold within its first 100 minutes of trading.
₹30,213-Crore IPO Draws Market Attention
With an issue size of ₹30,213 crore, the Jio Platforms IPO is among the most significant public offerings in India’s primary market.
The rapid subscription marks an important development for the country’s IPO market, where investor participation is closely watched for indications of demand for large corporate listings.
The issue’s early performance also places the spotlight on institutional appetite for major offerings in India’s telecom and digital economy sectors.

QIB Subscription Leads the Opening-Day Momentum
The qualified institutional buyer category recorded demand substantially higher than its reserved allocation. At 4.13 times subscription, the category attracted bids exceeding four times the shares set aside for these investors.
Domestic financial institutions accounted for a substantial portion of the reported demand, while foreign institutional investors also participated actively.
The distribution of bids indicates that institutional demand was the principal driver of the IPO’s rapid initial subscription. Subscription levels in other investor categories will provide a fuller picture of overall market participation as the issue progresses.
IPO Remains Open Until October 23
Although Jio Platforms’ IPO achieved full subscription within 100 minutes, the bidding process will continue through October 23.
Investors will continue to monitor category-wise subscription figures and the evolution of demand throughout the offering period.
The final subscription numbers will reflect total bids received across investor categories by the close of the issue. The early response, however, has already made the offering a closely watched event in India’s capital markets.
Key takeaway: Jio Platforms’ ₹30,213-crore IPO received bids for more shares than were available within 100 minutes of opening, with qualified institutional buyers leading the demand at 4.13 times subscription.
