NEW DELHI, (Economy india): The government has expanded India’s transshipment air cargo network by bringing four domestic and two international stations under the framework, allowing eligible transshipment cargo to move through transit stations without mandatory re-screening.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Wednesday flagged off the scaled-up phase of the transshipment cargo framework at the Transshipment Excellence Centre (TEC) of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) at Terminal 2 of Delhi airport.
Under the expanded framework, the mandatory re-screening of transshipment cargo at the transit station has been removed. The move is aimed at reducing delays, improving cargo movement and making India’s air cargo system more efficient and business-friendly.
The government said the decision is part of broader efforts to improve the ease of doing business and strengthen India’s position as a competitive air cargo and logistics hub.
The expanded network is expected to facilitate smoother movement of international and domestic cargo, while reducing procedural requirements at transit points. The initiative could also support exporters, importers, logistics companies and airlines by helping streamline cargo handling operations.
The scaling up of the transshipment framework reflects the government’s focus on modernising aviation infrastructure and creating a more efficient logistics ecosystem for businesses involved in international trade.
