PESHAWAR (Economy India): At least 14 people, including five security personnel, were killed and more than a dozen others were injured in a suicide attack near a police station during a peace rally in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday.

The explosion took place in Kabal town of Swat district while the Swat Peace Rally was underway directly across from the local police station. The powerful blast caused panic among participants and prompted an immediate emergency response.

According to officials, the victims included both civilians and members of the security forces. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, where several were reported to be in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could increase.

Security forces quickly sealed off the area and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. Authorities are also examining possible security lapses at the rally venue.

No militant group or individual has immediately claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing. However, Pakistan has witnessed a rise in militant violence in recent months, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, where security forces have been conducting operations against extremist groups.

The attack has been widely condemned, with officials reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace and bringing those responsible to justice.
