Thane, Maharashtra ( Economy India ): A 35-year-old woman lost her life after reportedly coming into contact with a live electrical wire near a power transformer during heavy rainfall in Maharashtra‘s Thane district, police said on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Shashi Rahul Chakra, a local shop owner from Kacheri village in Dombivli. According to police, the tragic incident took place on the night of July 1 while she was returning home after collecting goods for her shop.

Officials said that the woman allegedly slipped and fell near an electricity transformer located close to a public toilet. During the fall, she came into contact with a live wire, resulting in a fatal electric shock.

Local residents rushed to the spot after the incident and informed the authorities. However, the woman could not be saved.

Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. Authorities are also examining whether proper electrical safety measures were in place around the transformer.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of electrical infrastructure during the monsoon season. Experts often warn that waterlogging, exposed electrical wires, and poorly maintained transformers can pose serious risks to pedestrians.

Residents have urged civic authorities and electricity officials to inspect vulnerable installations, repair damaged equipment, and ensure adequate safety measures to prevent similar accidents.

The investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
