GLASGOW, (Economy India): India’s boxing campaign received a major boost as Preeti Pawar and Jadumani Singh secured impressive victories to advance to the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar produced a dominant performance in the women’s 54kg category, defeating Deborah Mtenje of Malawi by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the second round of their pre-quarterfinal bout.

The 22-year-old boxer from Bhiwani, Haryana, looked in complete control from the opening bell. She consistently landed clean punches and forced the referee to stop the contest after overwhelming her Malawian opponent.

Preeti has been one of India’s most promising boxers in recent years. She won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games and followed it up with a gold medal at the New Delhi World Cup last year. Her latest victory keeps India’s hopes alive for another boxing medal at the Commonwealth Games.

With both Preeti Pawar and Jadumani Singh reaching the last-eight stage, India’s boxing contingent has made a strong start and will now aim to secure medal-winning performances in the upcoming rounds.
