Special Intensive Revision Exercise Begins in All 147 Assembly Constituencies Ahead of Electoral Roll Update

BHUBANESWAR (Economy India): More than 45,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have begun a massive door-to-door survey across Odisha as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R S Gopalan announced on Saturday.

The month-long exercise, aimed at updating and verifying voter records, commenced from the holy city of Puri and will continue across all 147 Assembly constituencies of the state until June 28.

Statewide Survey to Verify Electoral Rolls

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, a total of 45,255 BLOs have been deployed to conduct the extensive field verification exercise.

The survey is designed to ensure the accuracy of electoral rolls by verifying voter details, identifying eligible voters, and updating records wherever necessary.

Officials said the exercise is being carried out under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision programme, which seeks to maintain transparency and accuracy in voter databases.

Majority of Voters Need Only Sign Forms

Addressing reporters, Gopalan clarified that most voters will not be required to submit additional documents during the verification process.

“Nearly 75 per cent of the electors have to only sign on the required forms and do not need any document for the SIR. No genuine citizen will face any difficulty during the SIR,” he said.

Election authorities have emphasized that the process is intended to be simple and citizen-friendly.

Focus on Inclusive and Error-Free Electoral Rolls

The revision exercise aims to ensure that all eligible voters are included in the electoral rolls while removing duplicate, shifted or ineligible entries.

Officials stated that BLOs will visit households, verify voter information, collect necessary updates and assist citizens in completing the required formalities.

The Election Commission has also directed officials to ensure that genuine voters are not inconvenienced during the process.

Crucial Exercise Ahead of Future Elections

The Special Intensive Revision is considered a key administrative exercise for maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

Accurate voter rolls play a critical role in ensuring free, fair and transparent elections by enabling eligible citizens to exercise their democratic rights.

The statewide survey is expected to cover millions of electors over the next four weeks, making it one of the largest voter verification drives undertaken in Odisha in recent years.
