PATNA, (Economy India): At least nine people were killed in lightning strikes across three districts of Bihar in the last 24 hours, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.

The fatalities were reported from Banka, Lakhisarai and Patna districts, with Banka recording the highest number of deaths. According to the statement, five people were killed in Banka, while three deaths were reported in Lakhisarai and one in Patna.

The incidents highlight the continuing risk posed by lightning during Bihar’s monsoon season. Lightning strikes are particularly dangerous in rural areas, where people often remain outdoors for agricultural work and other daily activities during sudden changes in weather.

Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions whenever thunderstorms develop. People are generally advised to move indoors and stay away from open fields, isolated trees, electric poles and other exposed areas during lightning and thunderstorms.

The latest deaths have once again raised concerns over weather-related fatalities in the state during the monsoon. Officials are expected to monitor weather conditions and issue warnings in areas likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning.

Residents have been urged to follow official weather advisories and avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during severe weather conditions.
