KATHMANDU, (Economy india): The death toll from devastating flash floods in central Nepal rose to 469 on Friday, as search and rescue teams continued operations for the third consecutive day. Nearly 1,000 people are still reported missing, highlighting the scale of the disaster.
The massive flash floods, which originated in Tibet, swept through parts of central Nepal on Wednesday, inundating towns and villages across several districts. The sudden flooding caused widespread destruction, washed away bridges and roads, and severely disrupted transportation and communication networks.
According to Nepal Police, the latest casualties were recorded as rescue teams recovered more bodies from eight affected districts. Three people were also reported killed in neighbouring Tibet.
The floods have caused extensive damage to infrastructure, including critical bridges and around a dozen hydropower projects. Several communities remain difficult to access because roads and bridges have been damaged or washed away.
Search teams, security personnel and local volunteers are continuing efforts to locate missing people and recover bodies from areas hit by the floods. Authorities are also assessing the damage and working to restore essential services in the worst-affected regions.
With hundreds confirmed dead and nearly 1,000 people still missing, the disaster has emerged as one of Nepal’s most serious recent flooding tragedies. Rescue operations are expected to continue as authorities reach more isolated areas and obtain a clearer picture of the destruction.
