NEW DELHI, (Economy India): A Delhi Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has awarded Rs 44.09 lakh in compensation to the five children of a couple who were killed in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh in 2021.

The couple was travelling on a motorcycle when a car allegedly rammed into their vehicle from behind, resulting in the deaths of both of them.

Presiding Officer Aparna Swami directed IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company to pay the total compensation of Rs 44.09 lakh to the couple’s five children. The amount will also carry 7.5 per cent annual interest from the date on which the compensation petitions were filed.

In its order dated July 30, the tribunal held that the driver of the offending vehicle was driving in a rash and negligent manner at the time of the accident.

The tribunal also noted that the mechanical inspection report of the vehicle supported the version presented by the petitioners, strengthening the case regarding the circumstances of the accident.

The compensation awarded to the five children is intended to provide financial support following the loss of their parents. The case highlights the role of motor accident claims tribunals in providing monetary relief to families that suffer financial and personal losses due to fatal road accidents.
