Kathmandu, (Economy India): An indefinite curfew remained in force for the fourth consecutive day in several parts of Nepal’s Sunsari district, which borders India, following communal violence that claimed one life and left several others injured.

The unrest began earlier this week, prompting local authorities to impose strict restrictions to prevent further escalation. The curfew, first enforced on Monday, has now been extended to ten areas, including sections of the East-West Highway, and will remain in effect until further notice.

According to officials, security personnel have been deployed across the affected areas to maintain law and order. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and conducting regular patrols to prevent any fresh incidents of violence.

Assistant Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Poshan Lamichhane, stated that while the security situation is gradually improving, precautionary measures remain necessary to ensure public safety and restore normalcy.

The communal clashes resulted in the death of one person, while several others sustained injuries during the violence. Medical teams have been providing treatment to the injured, and local authorities are working to prevent the spread of rumours that could further inflame tensions.

Residents have been advised to stay indoors and cooperate with security agencies until restrictions are lifted. Businesses, educational institutions, and transportation services in the affected areas have been significantly disrupted due to the ongoing curfew.

The Nepal government continues to monitor developments closely, with local administration and security forces coordinating efforts to maintain peace and facilitate dialogue among community leaders.

Officials have appealed to citizens to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation on social media, and support efforts to restore harmony in the region. Authorities indicated that the curfew will only be relaxed once the law-and-order situation has fully stabilized.
