Selling Pressure and Soft Spot Market Trends Weigh on Cottonseed Oil Cake Prices
New Delhi (Economy India): Cottonseed oil cake (CPOC) futures prices declined on Friday as weak demand in the physical market prompted traders to reduce their positions. Market participants remained cautious amid subdued buying activity, resulting in a mild correction in futures prices on the commodity exchange.
According to market data from the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, cottonseed oil cake contracts for July delivery fell by ₹13, or 0.36%, to ₹3,627 per quintal.
The contract recorded an open interest of 29,860 lots, indicating active participation by traders despite the decline.
Weak Spot Market Sentiment Impacts Futures
Commodity analysts attributed the fall in prices to a sell-off by traders at prevailing levels amid weak demand conditions in the spot market.
The cottonseed oil cake market has been witnessing cautious buying from feed manufacturers and livestock sector participants, leading to lower trading momentum. As demand remained subdued, several market participants chose to book profits and reduce exposure.
Analysts noted that the correction reflects short-term market sentiment rather than any major shift in the commodity’s fundamentals.

Importance of Cottonseed Oil Cake
Cottonseed oil cake is a key by-product obtained after extracting oil from cottonseeds. It is widely used as a protein-rich feed ingredient for:
- Dairy cattle
- Poultry farms
- Livestock nutrition
- Organic agriculture and fertilizers
Demand for cottonseed oil cake is closely linked to livestock farming, feed industry requirements, seasonal agricultural activity, and rural economic conditions.
Market
Experts believe future price movements will depend on several factors, including:
- Feed industry demand
- Availability of cottonseed stocks
- Monsoon progress and agricultural activity
- Commodity market sentiment
- Supply-demand balance in rural markets
While current demand remains soft, any improvement in livestock feed consumption could provide support to prices in the coming weeks.
