State Government Focuses on Semiconductors, IT, Pharma, Textiles and Green Energy as New Industrial Policy Drives Investment
Raipur (Economy India): Chhattisgarh is positioning itself as a new destination for emerging and future-oriented industries, with the state government focusing on sectors such as semiconductors, information technology, pharmaceuticals, textiles and green energy, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said on Friday.
Addressing the inauguration of the three-day India Industrial Fair-2026 at the Science College Ground in Raipur, Sai invited entrepreneurs, investors and industrial representatives from across the country to participate in Chhattisgarh’s industrial growth story.
More than 300 MSME entrepreneurs from across India are participating in the industrial fair, organised by Laghu Udyog Bharati from September 18 to 20.
Chhattisgarh Combining Traditional Strength with New-Age Industries
Sai said Chhattisgarh is moving beyond its traditional industrial strengths and preparing for the requirements of a new economy.
The state’s mineral resources, energy potential, forest wealth, human resources and central geographical location provide a strong foundation for industrial development, he said.
The government, he added, is seeking to combine these advantages with modern technology, improved infrastructure and investor-friendly policies to strengthen Chhattisgarh’s position as an industrial and investment destination.
“Our government’s role is not limited to being a regulator for industries. We are working to become a facilitator and accelerator for industry and investment.”
Sai said the government wants investors to receive a simple, transparent and time-bound system from the submission of an investment proposal through the establishment of a project on the ground.
New Industrial Policy Gives Fresh Push to Investment
The Chief Minister highlighted the Industrial Development Policy 2024-30, which was introduced after consultations with industry representatives, investors and other stakeholders.
The policy focuses not only on attracting investment but also on developing an industrial ecosystem in which investment, production, employment and the local economy grow together.
According to Sai, the policy prioritises simplified procedures, investment incentives, emerging sectors and employment opportunities for local youth.
He said Chhattisgarh has received investment proposals on a significant scale following the implementation of the policy, while several projects have also moved towards implementation.
Semiconductor Project Signals Shift Towards Future Industries
Sai said Chhattisgarh is no longer dependent only on traditional sectors such as coal, steel and cement.
The government is promoting sectors linked to the future economy, including IT, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, textiles and green energy.
He cited the commencement of work on a semiconductor project involving an investment of around ₹1,100 crore as an example of the changing industrial landscape.
The government is also working to develop Nava Raipur as a modern technology hub, with infrastructure and an ecosystem aimed at attracting technology-driven companies.
Plans are also being pursued to develop technology and industry excellence hubs in the state.
Single-Window System to Simplify Investment Process
Sai said policy stability and simplified procedures are essential for faster industrial development.
The state government is therefore working to streamline project-related processes through its single-window system, reducing the need for investors to approach multiple government offices.
The government is also focusing on providing land, infrastructure and other necessary facilities within a timely framework.
The objective, he said, is to allow entrepreneurs to concentrate on production, innovation, expansion and employment generation rather than procedural complexities.
Minerals, Energy and Forest Resources Remain Key Advantages
Chhattisgarh has significant reserves of minerals including coal, iron ore and bauxite, Sai said, adding that greater value addition within the state remains an important part of its industrial strategy.
He also highlighted the state’s forest resources and said Chhattisgarh has more than 44 per cent of its geographical area under forest cover.
Products such as tamarind, mahua, chironji and harra-bahera, along with medicinal resources, offer opportunities for scientific processing and value addition.
Such industries, he said, could create new economic opportunities in forest regions while helping increase incomes for local communities and tribal families.
Energy Capacity Supports Industrial Expansion
Energy is another major pillar of Chhattisgarh’s industrial potential, Sai said.
The state has around 30,000 MW of power generation capacity, while new investment proposals are being received in the energy sector.
The combination of electricity availability, water resources, human resources, natural resources and Chhattisgarh’s central location provides favourable conditions for industrial investment, he said.
Local Employment at the Centre of Industrial Growth
Sai said industrial development would be meaningful only if it creates employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for local youth.
The new industrial policy therefore gives special importance to local employment, with provisions aimed at encouraging industries that generate more jobs for people from the state.
The government wants young people to move beyond being job seekers and become job creators through skills, innovation and entrepreneurship, he said.
MSMEs and startups can play an important role in achieving this objective by connecting young people with skills, technology, markets and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Bastar Offers Opportunities in Tourism and Local Economy
The Chief Minister also highlighted the potential of Bastar in tourism and the local economy.
The region’s waterfalls, forests, natural landscapes and distinctive tribal culture can attract tourists from across India and abroad, he said.
Initiatives such as homestays are being promoted to connect tourism directly with local livelihoods.
Sai invited entrepreneurs attending the industrial fair to explore Chhattisgarh’s tourism destinations alongside its industrial and investment opportunities.
Deputy CM Arun Sao Highlights MSME and Industrial Opportunities
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao said the 14th edition of the India Industrial Fair represents an important opportunity for Chhattisgarh’s industrial development.
He said the event is bringing entrepreneurs from different parts of the country together to exchange information about products, technologies, innovations and business opportunities.
Industrial expansion, he added, can generate new employment opportunities across the state.
Sao also encouraged visiting entrepreneurs to explore Chhattisgarh’s tourism and pilgrimage destinations.
Industry Minister Says Investment Proposals Moving to Ground
Industry Minister Lakhhan Lal Dewangan said the state government is implementing various measures under the new industrial policy to attract investors and simplify the process of establishing industries.
He said investment proposals are increasingly translating into projects on the ground, with new industries being established across different sectors.
The government is also working to support small industries, resolve entrepreneurs’ concerns and attract fresh investment through sector-specific interactions and workshops.
India Industrial Fair Provides Platform for MSMEs
Laghu Udyog Bharati representative Prakash Chandra Gupta said the organisation has been working for more than three decades to bring micro and small industries together and communicate their concerns and requirements to governments.
He said the India Industrial Fair provides entrepreneurs with an opportunity to showcase their products, establish business contacts, exchange innovations and discuss future industrial opportunities.
With more than 300 MSME entrepreneurs participating, the three-day event is expected to serve as a platform for business networking, technology exchange and exploration of new industrial possibilities.
Chhattisgarh’s Emerging Industrial Strategy
The state government’s focus on future industries, local value addition, MSMEs, technology, employment and investment facilitation marks an effort to diversify Chhattisgarh’s industrial base.
From semiconductors and technology in Nava Raipur to value-added mineral and forest products and tourism in Bastar, the state is seeking to create multiple avenues for investment and employment while building on its existing industrial strengths.
