Chhattisgarh to witness major road infrastructure push as Union Minister Nitin Gadkari sanctions key highway projects, including upgrades in Bilaspur, Keshkal, and along Katni-Gumla route.

New Delhi I Economy India: In a significant boost to Chhattisgarh’s road infrastructure, the Central Government has sanctioned Rs600 crore for key highway and urban road projects across the state. The announcement follows a meeting between Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Thursday.

Among the highlights of the discussion was the approval for upgrading two-lane roads in the State Capital Region (SCR) to four-lane highways, a move expected to decongest traffic and boost regional connectivity.

Chief Ministerโ€™s Statement

CM Vishnu Deo Sai welcomed the approvals, emphasizing that enhanced road infrastructure will improve logistics, reduce travel time, and support industrial development in Chhattisgarh. โ€œWe are thankful to the Union Government for recognizing the stateโ€™s needs and responding swiftly with project approvals and funding,โ€ he said after the meeting.

Strategic Importance

The road upgrades, particularly the four-laning in the State Capital Region, are expected to:

  • Improve traffic flow between Raipur, Naya Raipur, and surrounding towns
  • Support the upcoming capital regionโ€™s urban expansion
  • Enhance inter-state freight movement, especially via Katni-Gumla corridor
  • Strengthen rural-urban connectivity for farmers and industries alike

With several important approvals secured and financial green lights on the horizon, Chhattisgarh is poised for a major road infrastructure transformation. The Centreโ€™s Rs600 crore sanction marks a strong collaborative push between state and Union governments toward modernizing connectivity and accelerating regional development.
