RAIPUR (Economy India): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday said that more than 400 villages in the Bastar region have been revitalised under the state government’s flagship Niyad Nellanar Yojana, marking a decisive shift from decades of stagnation towards inclusive development and social integration.

Addressing a massive public gathering during the district-level Bastar Pandum programme at Narayanpur High School Ground, the Chief Minister announced ₹351.49 crore worth of development projects, covering 357 works, including road connectivity, education infrastructure, bridges, schools, and community facilities.

The event coincided with CM Sai’s two-day visit to Narayanpur district, one of the most interior regions of Bastar, long affected by Left Wing Extremism.

From Conflict to Connectivity: Bastar’s Development Turnaround

CM Sai stated that Bastar is witnessing a historic transformation as security stabilisation and governance outreach converge, allowing development to reach regions that had remained isolated for decades.

“The era of violence that stalled development in Bastar is ending. With peace returning, innovation, infrastructure, and livelihoods are now reaching the grassroots,” the Chief Minister said.

He credited the Centre–State coordination, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for sustained efforts towards eliminating armed extremism and restoring normalcy across affected districts.

Niyad Nellanar Yojana: A Gateway to Governance for Remote Villages

Under the Niyad Nellanar Scheme, the state government has ensured that basic welfare schemes, administrative services, livelihood initiatives, and skill development programmes reach interior tribal villages.

According to CM Sai:

  • Over 400 villages now have access to government services
  • Surrendered former extremists are being rehabilitated through skill training and employment support
  • Emphasis is being laid on agriculture, animal husbandry, tourism, and forest-based livelihoods

The initiative aims to integrate remote tribal communities into the economic mainstream while preserving their cultural identity.

₹351 Crore Development Package for Narayanpur

At the Bastar Pandum event, CM Sai inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 357 development works, spanning roads, bridges, education, and sports infrastructure.

Key Highlights:

  • Strengthening rural–urban connectivity
  • Expanding school and residential education facilities
  • Improving inter-district and inter-state road links
  • Boosting sports and youth engagement infrastructure

These projects are expected to significantly enhance mobility, service delivery, and economic activity in the region.

“Progress must go hand in hand with preservation. Bastar’s cultural heritage is its strength,” he said.

The Chief Minister toured exhibits showcasing:

  • Tribal cuisine
  • Traditional attire and jewellery
  • Indigenous art forms and ancient artefacts

Social Reintegration: CM Blesses Surrendered Former Extremists

In a symbolic gesture of reconciliation, CM Sai blessed four newlywed couples who had surrendered arms and returned to mainstream society under the government’s rehabilitation policy.

The couples were supported under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, reinforcing the state’s focus on social inclusion and dignity-based rehabilitation.

Leaders Emphasise Peace-Linked Development

Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap

Said that decisive leadership at the national and state levels would ensure complete eradication of armed extremism by March 31, 2026, paving the way for sustained peace and prosperity.

Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma

Highlighted that Narayanpur receiving ₹351 crore reflects the government’s commitment to equitable regional development.

Bastar MP Mahesh Kashyap

Stressed the need for the younger generation to preserve tribal culture, adding that initiatives like Bastar Pandum and Bastar Olympics are empowering tribal youth and strengthening social cohesion.

A New Bastar Narrative

The developments in Narayanpur reflect a broader transformation underway in Bastar — from isolation to integration, from conflict to connectivity, and from neglect to inclusive growth.

With sustained focus on infrastructure, livelihoods, education, culture, and reconciliation, Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region is steadily carving a new narrative rooted in peace and progress.
