Islamabad ( Economy India ): At least nine policemen were killed in a terrorist attack on a police post in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, according to local officials. The deadly assault took place late Monday night in the Mangi Dam area of Ziarat district, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.
Officials said heavily armed militants targeted the police post, resulting in significant casualties among security personnel. The attack has also left five policemen missing, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation by security forces.
Ziarat Deputy Commissioner Abdul Qudoos Achakzai confirmed the deaths and the disappearance of five officers. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible.
Balochistan has witnessed repeated attacks on security forces over the years, with militant groups frequently targeting police stations, military convoys, and government installations. The province has long faced insurgency and terrorism-related violence, making it one of Pakistan’s most volatile regions.
Following the latest attack, security forces have intensified operations in the surrounding areas to trace the attackers and recover the missing personnel. Additional security has also been deployed to vulnerable locations across the district.
The Pakistani government strongly condemned the attack and reiterated its commitment to combating terrorism. Officials have pledged that those responsible will be brought to justice while reaffirming support for the families of the slain officers.
The incident underscores the persistent security threats facing law enforcement agencies in Balochistan, where attacks on police and security personnel continue to pose a major challenge despite ongoing counterterrorism operations.
