Real Estate Veteran Viral Desai to Lead Knight Frank India from April 2027; Has Been With the Firm Since 2007

New Delhi (Economy India): Real estate consultancy Knight Frank India has announced the appointment of Viral Desai as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with Desai set to take charge from April 2027.

Desai is a long-standing executive at Knight Frank and has been associated with the company since 2007. He currently serves as Senior Executive Director – Transactions, where he oversees several key business verticals.

His responsibilities include Occupier Strategy and Solutions (OSS), Industrial and Logistics, Capital Markets, and Retail Agency businesses.

Two Decades of Experience at Knight Frank

Desai’s appointment reflects the company’s decision to place an experienced internal leader at the helm of its India operations.

Since joining Knight Frank in 2007, Desai has built extensive experience across India’s commercial real estate and transaction markets. His current role gives him responsibility across multiple segments that are central to the country’s rapidly evolving real estate sector.

Over the years, India’s commercial property market has undergone significant changes, driven by corporate expansion, growth in organised retail, logistics demand, industrial development and increasing investor interest in real estate assets.

Leadership Across Key Real Estate Segments

As Senior Executive Director – Transactions, Desai currently manages a diverse portfolio of businesses.

Occupier Strategy and Solutions

The Occupier Strategy and Solutions (OSS) business focuses on helping companies plan and manage their real estate requirements, including workplace strategy and location-related decisions.

Industrial and Logistics

India’s industrial and logistics real estate segment has expanded rapidly alongside the growth of manufacturing, e-commerce, warehousing and supply-chain infrastructure. Desai’s responsibility for this vertical places him at the centre of an important growth segment.

Capital Markets

The capital markets business deals with real estate investment and transactions, connecting investors and property owners and supporting investment activity across India’s commercial property sector.

Retail Agency

Desai also oversees Knight Frank India’s retail agency business, an area influenced by the expansion of organised retail, changing consumer preferences and the growth of shopping and mixed-use developments.

Why the Appointment Matters

The appointment comes at a time when India’s real estate industry is experiencing structural changes across commercial, industrial, logistics and retail segments.

Strong demand for office space, expanding manufacturing activity, growth in logistics infrastructure and increasing institutional participation have created new opportunities for real estate consultants and investors.

With experience across multiple transaction-focused businesses, Desai is positioned to play an important role in shaping Knight Frank India’s strategy as the company enters its next phase of growth.

Desai to Take Charge in April 2027

Although Knight Frank India has announced Desai as its incoming CEO, he will formally assume the position in April 2027.

Until then, the company will continue with its existing leadership structure. Desai’s transition into the CEO role will bring continuity, given his nearly two decades of association with the firm.

Knight Frank India’s Next Phase

The Indian real estate market is becoming increasingly diversified, with opportunities emerging beyond traditional office and residential property segments.

Industrial and logistics assets, retail developments, corporate occupier solutions and real estate investment transactions are becoming increasingly important components of the market.

Against this backdrop, Desai’s experience across these areas could be significant as Knight Frank India looks to strengthen its presence and expand its advisory and transaction businesses.

Viral Desai’s elevation to CEO marks an important leadership transition for Knight Frank India. His long association with the organisation and experience spanning several major real estate businesses provide continuity as the consultancy navigates India’s evolving property market.

With Desai set to assume charge in April 2027, the real estate industry will be watching how Knight Frank India builds on its existing operations and responds to emerging opportunities across commercial property, industrial and logistics, capital markets and retail.
